Title: David Winks
Post by: ColinT on Thursday 14 August 08 14:25 BST (UK)
Can anyone help with a Parish Register lookup for David Winks born Carlton-in-Lindrick, Notts 1810.
He married Ann Wall in Worksop in 1830.

I am trying to find his parents and grandparents.

Thanks,

ColinT

Hi Colin

Welcome to Rootschat

How sure are you of his birth date?

I have records of Carlton in Lindrick from 1630 - 1812 but there is no David Winks although there is a family there around that time.

John bapt 7 sept 1800 to Edward & Ann Winks
Frances bapt 29 Nov 1803 to Edward & Ann Winks
Ann bapt 3 Mar 1805 to Edward & Ann Winks
James bapt 21 Nov 1807 to Edward & Ann

Hello Sunflower,

Thanks for the reply.

His birth-date is assumed from the 1851 Census as 41. Living in Worksop at Potter Street with wife Ann and his children.
His occupation is a shoemaker and shows his place of birth as Carlton.

The details you have given are for Edward Winks and Anne Gilberthorpe in Carlton. My original thoughts were that David had the same parents but don't think that is the case. Maybe they are related in some way though?

Can you please advise me of the parents of Edward born 1776? and Ann also.

Hi Colin

Nothing is coming up for either of them I'm afraid.

The only Edward Winks I can find is this one

Edward bapt 20.08.1769 to Richard &Ann Winks at Blyth
(abode Barnby)

Barnby is next to Carlton

Carol,

Further to David Winks I wonder if he was born in Carlton-on-Trent. Would you have any details of this town or point me in the right direction.

Hi Colin

On the CD I have Carlton on Trent is only covered from 1899 - 1901

Have you found David in the 1861 census? He does state
Carlton in Lindrick as place of birth in that census.

If you haven't got it let me know and I will give details.

The information I have on Carton in Lindrick came from the BT's rather than the PR's.  I have noticed before that some enties are in the PR's and not BT's and vice versa. I can only suggest a full seach of the PR's at the Notts Records Office.  You never know you luck someone may be visiting.

Hello Carol

Have just checked the 1861 Census and you are correct about Carlton-in-Lindrick being stated as his birthplace. I was looking at an earlier census 1851 which just says Carlton.

How do I appeal for someone to check this for me?

I have discovered a Thomas Winks marriage to Millicent Key in St Mary's Nottingham in 1808.
This could be David's father. Pure speculation at the moment but the dates are interestingly close.
Don't know if you can help with this one?

Hi Colin

Were there any witnesses on the marriage entry?

There are also several other Wink marriages around that time in Nottingham.

Joseph Winks m Mary Chapman 13.07.1807 at Blyth
Richard Winks m Elizabeth Moore 14.08.1804 at Blyth
Edward Winks m Ann Gilberthorpe 27.11.1793 at Carlton in L
William Winks m Ann Jackson 31.03.1796 at West Burton
William Winks m Hannah Steemdon 25.12.1792 at Elkesley

It might be worth starting a new thread asking for a Records Office look up

Carol,

My mistake.

I only have the date of the Marriage from the LDS Familysearch website. All information otherwise has been gleaned from subsequent Census lists.

Thanks,

Colin

Hi

My brother has asked me to get the death certificates of David and Ann Winks who both died in Worksop in 1870, and wonder if this is the same David and Ann. They both died aged 61.

If so, do you have their death certificates? Thank you

Liz
