Title: Briffett family name
Post by: Dannemois on Sunday 21 September 08 20:51 BST (UK)
The Briffett family name was very prominent in Brithdir in the early 1920s.  Can someone please help locate a Hector Briffett on the 1901 census?   I found this marriage for a Hector B.P. Briffett, don’t know if it is the same guy.

Is it possible to transcribe the household on the 1901C for this family.  I may be able to identify other family members.

Thanks
Roy

Dear Roy,

Hector Bayden Powell Briffett was my great great uncle, my fathers mothers mothers brother, he was born in 1900 and died in the 1970's.  He lived all his married life in Llanbradach and he had nine children (eight daughters and a son Colin), most of whom are likely to be living in the area.
Are you related in any way?

If you have any more specific questions please do come back to me on here.

Best wishes,

Huw Price.

Hi Huw
I am not related but will explain my interest in the Briffett family name.  I am researching the village of Brithdir in the Rhymney Valley of South Wales.  During the period 1920/1930s, Hector Briffett, George Henry Briffett, and other family members of Bronhaulwen, Brithdir were very prominent in the poultry world travelling to shows all over England & Wales and winning many prizes with their Minorca Hens.

A gravestone in Gwaelod y Brithdir cemetery marks the burial place of George H. Briffett and his wife Mary.

If you recognise any of the names as family then I would be more than happy to share details I have on file.

Regards
Roy
