Hi not sure if I'm in the right section,I'm trying to access the archives of the Western Mail newspaper for 1891,I think it can be done but cannot see how.
Anyone know how its done.
Regards.
Peter.

I can access Western mail archives via the monmouthshire libraries website but you need to have a library card. It links to a british library site, but having gone to their site directly I cant see how you can access them that way.
Let me know if I can do a look up for you.

Thanks for that, some kind person did look up what I wanted from a library using there card and I tried to see if I could do the same from home.
So if it goes to the British Library perhaps I should try that way.
Regards.

Hi all,
I'd like to know if it's likely that my Grandad's death in April 1920 would have been reported in a local newspaper. He lived in Tredegar with his family.
He went missing and was found a couple of days later, drowned in a pond in Tredegar. I have his death certificate, which shows the Coroner recorded an open verdict on the cause of death. I have tried to locate the relevant Coroner's report, but I understand it is no longer available.
I don't know the Tredegar area myself and have no idea which newpspapers I should be looking for. Does anyone know which, if any, local papers circulated that area in 1920 which might have carried the story?
Grateful for any advice.
Emmy

Go to www.tredegar.co.uk Lots of information about Tredegar and the surrounding areas, also a genealogy board that might help you.

Thank you, Ozlady. :)
I' signed up to that website a long time ago, but my question there hasn't come up with the answer yet, so I thought I'd try my luck here.
Best wishes,
Emmy

Hi Roy,
:) Thank you for the info - I'll try contacting the Library.
I live near London, so I can't get to Newport easily.
A visit will have to wait till I make a trip to see my relatives in Wales.
Best wishes,
Emmy

Emmy,I have had a look at the local newspaper the South Wales Argus for April 1920
and couldn`t see any reports for a Tredegar drowning. There is a chance I could have missed it.Do you have a name and date in April, and I`ll have a look next time for you.[After Christmas ] PM me if you want.

Hello Steve, I wondered if you could help. We were looking for relatives in Penterry and one remembers seeing the well filled in at the church in 1920. I wondered whether there would be an entry in the Argus for this event and if they mentioned where it was exactly perhaps a photo. Penterry is near St Arvans in Chepstow.
I would be grateful if you could find the report. there seems to be no record of when it was done. I imagine in the summer months when the well is driest. Sorry I have no more info. One of the people was involved in filling the well up. thanks if you can help....

I will most certainly have a look for you,but it may be a long process without a date to work off.
