Title: 1861 Hinckley - Dawson
Post by: jean Sandra on Monday 31 January 05 21:49 GMT (UK)
Hi,

would it be possible for someone with the 1861 census for Hinckley to look up some dawson family members?

My ancestor William dawson appears to have been married to Susan dawson (born 1823/24) in 1851 with children Sarah ( born 1843/44) and George (born 1847/48).
However in 1861 he is in Northwich with a new family.

If someone could look up Susan aged about 37, sarah aged about 17 and George aged about 13 for me in Hinckley I would be very grateful. I don't seem to be able to find deaths for them and am left wondering what happened to them.

I am descended from his second family and can't find a marriage for him and Alice Wilson in Cheshire but then I can't find a marriage between William and Susan in Hinckley either!

I'm left feeling puzzled.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Jean Sandra

But..... I think this is Sarah and her sister Mary
Boarders with a Robert & Sarah Hinton.& a Small Family.....

1861. Scanned Census Returns.
RG 9 / 2287 / Page. 90a.
City of Leicester.
12, Seven Street.

Sarah Dawson. Boarder.Um. 17. Glove Stitcher, Born Hinckley.
Mary Dawson. Boarder. 15. Um. Glove Stitcher, Born Hinckley.

Ages check out concurrently with those I found for you yesterday
Robert & Sarah Hinton were both born in Hinckley.

Seven Street is again not that far from Charnwood Street and Mere Road. ......

Hi Mike,

many thanks yet again.

Yes, it would make sense for Sarah and her sisters to be boarders if their parents had died. I wonder why William left them to go to Northwich and start a new family.
I wonder if Susan died? I can't find a death yet.

I wonder if the Hinton family were also the family of Susan, perhaps she was a Hinton or perhaps Sarah Hinton was her sister and Sarah Dawson was named after her. Then again they could just have taken in boarders for the extra income...

Thank you for all your help Mike, It's much appreciated.

Regards
