What religion were the family? 'Parish' can refer to Roman Catholic or Church of Ireland.
There's at least one Thomas McCarrey of Portaferry mentioned on this page:

OK - change your :( to a :)
Thomas McCarry married Susanna Savage at Portaferry RC church on 28/05/1868.
Their son (99 % sure ) married Mary Anne McQuillan in the same church 26/10/1902.
Various other McCarry's married there.
T snr may have had at least two sisters who married - Ann and Mary.
T jnr appears to have had at least one brother John.

Are you in NI or not ?
RC records are much harder to follow from mid 1850's backwards but some survive at PRONI. PM me with your e-mail if you need a look up over there -might be there fairly soon.

Hi im a complete novice to this. I was looking for my nan and put the information which i know about my nan in a search engine, McCarry born 1914, Portaferry and Chatham. Nan died when i was very young and I wanted to find out more. She lived in Ordnance street, Chatham with grandad until they moved to Nelson Terrace in Luton, Chatham. Can you tell me anything?
I am going to visit Portaferry later this year and wanted some information before I travel there. thank you Gina

Hi
what was your nans name?

I was looking for my nan and put the information which i know about my nan in a search engine, McCarry born 1914, Portaferry and Chatham. Nan died when i was very young and I wanted to find out more.
GRONI has only 4 McCarry births in 1914- 2 males and 2 females. The females are Catherine (Lurgan district) & Mary (Larne district). Portaferry sub-district comes under Newtownards district. One of the males (Patrick) was registered in Portaferry sub-district but of course he can't be your grandmother :-\
f she was born in 1914 she won't be listed in the 1911 census but her parents, and possibly siblings, would be. Do you know her parents' names? marriage certificate should list father's name & occupation). There is this McCarry couple in Portaferry, along with her mother, but no way to tell yet if this is her family-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Portaferry/Castle_Street/241310
However, there are also 8 other McCarrys in Portaferry but we have no way of knowing if any of these people are related to you.

Hi Biddy
Nans name was Rosaleen McCarry, she was married to David Rees, they lived in Chatham. :)

I've found Rosaleen A. McCarry's marriiage in 1936 (Medway district) and what looks like the birth registrations for 5 children 1938-1947 in Medway/Chatham but haven't found her death in the indexes or a birth for her in Co. Down. Do you have the marriage certificate to see if her father's details are listed?
