Hi
Would anyone have access to burial records for the Rumney area?
My GGrandfather William Charles Williams died 17 Nov1894 in Rumney and with the lack of other info, I thought if I could find a headstone, it might throw some light (here's hoping ::) )

He was 74 when he died so b 1820 or so. Do you have a copy of his marriage cert showing his fathers name?
Do you have him on any census between 1841-1891 which shows his birthplace

Hi Carole
Oh how I wish ???
A Marriage cannot be found between him and his wife Norah Hearn but I do have copies of his childrens certs. The only census that he is definately on is the 1881 Welsh Census (found only by looking for his supposed wife) I am beginning to believe they might not have actually been married. On this census, his birth age is given as 1831, so given the difference with his death cert, I imagine his birth date was anywhere inbetween.
He really is elusive and because of his common name and surname I cannot definately pin him to another census. Hence it occurred to me that if there was a headstone, there just might be that extra bit of info so desperately needed :(

Sorry Carole, I did not read all of your reply (must be late)
His birthplace was Worcester - surprisingly, I do hope this was not an error by the inumerator.

Hi
If you have the right 1881 entry then here is a bit of info which may (or may not) help
There is a stepson called John Ford aged 12 in 1881 b Devon Torrington - same as Norah who is aged 40 so b 1841 or so
That means that Norah would have married William as Ford - not Hearn
I checked back to the 1871 and Norah also appears to have a problem with her birthyear as she is shown as aged 23 and married to John Ford with son John aged 1
Freebmd has this marriage
Marriages Sep 1867
Ford John Torrington 5b 837
HEARN Nora Torrington 5b 837
3month old daughter Norah in 1891

Many thanks for that Carole, my, you work quick and there is some new info for me so very much appreciated :D
Yes it appears that Norah came with her husband from Devon to South Wales, her husband died in a railway accident in 1872 and then Norah is with William on the 1881 census. No marriage, lots of children (including stepson), then William disappears again >:( . (after he dies, Norah does re-marry again to a Tuggwell I think)
If William was born 1820-31 in Worcester then between this time and 1873 (the birth of first child with Norah) he also made his way to South Wales. I can find absolutely nothing on him for this period :'( :'( :'(
William's death cert says - 17 Nov 1894 William Charles Williams , Gardener of Rumney at age 74 as you rightly say, so I am as sure as I can be that it is him. So maybe his headstone, if there is one, may give a hint or a clue that I so desperately need?
