I notice on Biographical Index of South Australia 1836-1885 that although William YEATMAN details are listed, there is no shipping record...this may indicate that the person did not emigrate directly to South Australia but arrived in another State and then travelled to South Australia by either coastal shipping or even overland.  Perhaps the gold rush in Victoria may have been the reason he disembarked at Port Phillip.

Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923
YEATMAN   William    Aged 17   Arrived Dec 1852 on the   HYDERABAD   Port B   Fiche 022   Pge 002

If you would like the listing for Wm YEATMAN in BISA, please let me know.

Cheers

A search of the passenger lists online at the SA Archives has turned up an Agnes Lucy and also Harriet Lucy.  The ref is 59/2 which usually means an arrival year of 1859.  This would need to be checked out to see what information is shown on the actual passenger list.

The 1841 and 1851 Scotland census shows a family living Glasgow with parents John and Ann Lucy with a number of children including Agnes 1838 and Harriet 1841 but Agnes is listed as being born in Ireland as are the parents.

In 1861 Ann is with a few of her children but no sign of her husband (maybe he had died) or Harriet and Agnes.

If I get a chance next week I will check out the arrival details for Agnes as I don't think the passenger lists are available online for 1859 for SA.

Cazay. The dates for Agnes and Harriet seem to fit my info. Also i found a reference that the two girls may have arrived on the "North" in South Aust 28 Jan 1859. That date also matches with your reference. Would be good to be able to confirm these details.

You had said that Agnes was born Glasgow, that was the thing that threw me a bit, not matching up with the census.

Maybe she was from Glasgow, not actually having been born there.

Was that information on her marriage certificate?

If you want the census details I will post or do you want to wait until the passenger list entry is checked?

No online passenger records for 1859 as yet...an ongoing project on The Shipslist website - Immigrants to South Australia, (UK, assisted passage) 1847-1886  ...some 1856 are now online.
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/SAassistedindex.htm

The records at SA Archives passenger search is limited to GRG35/48/1 Official Passenger Lists of Emigrants Selected by the Colonization Commissioners 1845-1886.

I posted this resource in
Australian Resources
>South Australian Resources
at the top of the board, some time ago and am embarrassed that I didn't search there.

Your shipping date reference matches with the shipping arrivals list on the SAGHS website for the North, and sailed from Liverpool.

Thanks for the Census details. Any idea what the abbreviation on NK Ireland shown for Agnes in 1851 is?

I think that would be......not known

A bit strange though, you would think that her parents would know where she was born

Agnes Lucy 20 Domestic Servant - Lanark
Harriett Lucy 18 Domestic Servant - Lanark

This is all the information that was listed on the passenger list for the North arrival 28 January 1859 Adelaide.

It looks fairly likely that it would be your Agnes Lucy though.

Hi, I was surprised to find this post as this is also my family! I would love to get in touch - email me at (*) and we can share info on the family.

I have found the Yeatman line incredibly frustrating!
