I am looking for the birth of my 2 x gt grandfather born 1822. On the 3 census returns I have found it states he was born in Skipton Craven, Gisbourne or Gargrave.
I know from his marriage cert that his father was also James.
Can anyone help me find anymore details of his family.
Many thanks

Hi Woody
I had seen this birth to James and Ruth but have reservations as to whether this is my James.
Normally the mother's name was handed down but I have no Ruth's at all in the family so makes me wonder if this is the one.
Thnaks for looking

I dont think you should discount it just because of that, names were not always passed down through families .
The date, area and fathers name match up that Woody has found.

There are more children born to this couple in Thornton-in-Craven
James ch. 13.6.1813
Pheobe ch. 5.2.1815
Elizabeth ch. 11.5.1817 .
Ann ch. 29.8.1819
William ch. 19.2.1826
I would imagine the first James did not survive .
Extracted records. Are any of these names familiar ???

Many thanks for looking up this info.
The only name that is in the family is Elizabeth.
I will see if I can follow any of the other siblings to the 1841 census, it might just give me some leads.
I do wonder if the family had moved to Lancs before James was baptised, will look into this also.

Ruth Cowgill b.1784 Christened 11June.
Father John Cowgill Mother Elizabeth
They wouldn't have to move far from Thornton-in-Craven to be in Lancashire. You could just about spit that far !!

I have been doing some searching and have found a William b1826 married and living in the same area as my James. According to the census he was born in Gargnraf(1851) and Garguff(1861) N Yorks, I am assuming this could be Gargrave. If this is so he could well be James's brother and the link I have been looking for.
It is looking more than likely that James and Ruth are my James's parents, I have not been able to find them in the 1841 census. I shall carry on seaching.
Thanks for your help.
