Now that I found the missing great aunt lol I decided I would work on my Paternal Grandmother to have a rest .... yeah right lol.
Got her birth certificate, 1891, found out she was illigitimate, no big deal, her mothers name was on the Certificate, find her marriage certificate to my Grandfather and it says her mother was deceased. Off I go to hunt down a death certificate for said great grandmother, to find nothing.
Ok says I, let us check the 1891 Census and see what it throws up ..... I discover my grandmother, living with her grandparents, and aged 2 months old. Right, that is fine possibly her mother died in childbirth methinks but no ... nothing not that easy in my family ... I discover another illigitimate birth to the same woman in 1893 and birth is registered by the grandmother, now known as Agnes Mathieson.
Another check shows that Agnes was widowed and remarried and that the second illigitimate child was brought up by her mother, who married and went on to have more children, but my grandmother is still registered on 1901 Census as living with her grandparents.
Going by what I have found out now, I think that Georgina Purdie (my grandmothers mother) and Georgina Yeardly are one and the same person, but how do I go about sort of confirming this as 99% of me says it is but 1% is not entirely sure?

What is your Grans name the one born 1891 and where was she born?

The 1901 Scottish census has the following family living in Red Row Fauldhouse,West Lothian.
James Yeardly 40 coal miner hewer
Georgina Yeardly 33 wife
Robina Purdie step dau 7
Agnes Yeardly 6 dau
Annie Yeardly 2
George Yeardly 3 mths
Everyone born Fauldhouse.

So it sure looks like Georgina was a Purdie before she married Mr Yeardly.

In 1891 Georgina Purdie is a 21 year old Dairymaid for a farmer called Alexander Kidd
The address is Nether Lennie , Cramond,Midlothian.
No wonder her 2mth old baby Mary is with grannie ;D
She is 44 year old Agnes Matthieson,but also staying there is 22 year old Hugh Purdie,whom I'm betting is Georgina's hubby?

Ok my grandmothers name was Mary Dalziel Purdie .. her birth certificate shows her as illigitimate, born 1891. It was Georgina Purdie who registered the birth, i.e., my grandmothers mother.
Two years later comes Robina Purdie, also illigitimate, but this time Georgina is shown as Georgina Kerr Purdie and the birth was registered by Agnes Mathieson, assuming Agnes is Georginas Mother .... boy it's complicated.
Regarding Hugh Purdie, I think that this could be Georginas elder brother, since both my grandmothers birth and the birth of Robina both state on the certificates illigitimate.
Still on the 99% certain that the Georgina in question is my greatgrandmother, but there's still that 1% niggle

Marriage between James Yeardly and Georgina K Purdie, Fauldhouse, West Lothian in 1893 (SP) should confirm parents' names. It may also clear up where the Mathieson name appears.

It appears to all tie in nicely. Checked the marriage certificate for Georgina and James Yeardly, and Georgina's father was Thomas Purdie, who was deceased at the time of the marriage. It appears Agnes Purdie remarried and this is where the Mathieson comes in according to the Census.
Also would appear that my grandmother Mary was led to believe her mother was deceased as it appears on her marriage certificate to my grandfather that Georgina Purdie was dead.
So looks like i have found my great grandmother and great great grandmother on the Paternal side of this branch ;D
