Welcome to Rootschat.
Civil registration of births in Ireland started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for Mary Ann.
Until you find where in Ireland (parish if not actual townland) she came from you won't be able to start looking for church records (if they exist).
Do her marriage and/or death certificates give any details like birthplace, names of parents, etc.? Do you know when she went to Australia and did she go on her own?

hi lyn,

i could only find 4 townland names for hollyhill, if it is a townland;

4 in county cork and one in county tyrone.

the holly hill on the letter mightn't be a townland, hopefully it is, but this might help you track them down.

hi candie
The Holly Hill you mention could be in Lavey Parish in Co Derry.  There are still McPeake's living there

A snippet of information from the IGI which might (or more likely not) be relevant ...

The IGI has the birth of an Eliza MCPEAKE, 29 Apr 1866, Londonderry, Ireland with parents Henry MCPEAKE and Rose FARRELL.

Do you know what religion Mary Ann and/or her parents were?

There is an extensive website for Lavey RC Parish (Lavey mentioned above by bann-p) at:
http://www.lmi.utvinternet.com/

It has various records.
There's a Rosey MCPEAKE burial, 1881
And, in a list of some of the contributors to the building of a new chapel in the 1870s, there's the name of a Henry MCPEAKE, Holly-Hill.
These may be coincidental - but worth a look.

Re Holly Hill County Derry
Mary Ann McPeake was possibly the sister of William McPeak who was my wife’s great grandfather.
The name spelling varied McPeke, McPake, even McPeka
His parents were Henry McPeak and Rose Farrell
He migrated to Adelaide SA from County Derry via Newcastle UK.
S.A. Shipping Lists Ref 78/19 “Hesperus” from Plymouth 9/8/1878, to Adelaide, arrived 24/10/1878
He was accompanied by his wife Jane nee McCord and children Roseanna, 6, William 4, Mary,2, and Cath/Catherine/Kate, aged 1. William was aged 27 and Jane 25.
Two sons Joseph and Charles were born in Adelaide. The family later moved to Broken Hill NSW where he died in 1893.
His death Certificate indicates that he married at Holly Hill, Ireland at age 19 to Jane McCord.
Children were listed as Rose Ann aged 22, William James 19, Mary Jane 17, Kate 16, Joseph 14, Charles 11.
According to family history Roseanna went to W. A. and married a man surnamed Mou or Mow. William, Bill, also went to W. A, and their mother Jane nee McCord also went to live in WA at Coolgardie or Kalgoorlie.
Jane nee McCord’s died at Albany WA 8 th February 1916. The Death Certificate states married at Macaquin or Macosquin, in Co Derry, Ireland at 18 years of age to William McPake.
Macosquin is near Coleraine in Londonderry.
There is a Holly Hill a few km west of Dungiven.
The information from Lavey Parish indicates that a William McPeake 1854 and Mary Ann 1855, and William 1871, and Catherine 1879 were born there.
The location of Holly Hill remains a mystery as Holly Hill appears to have been a common place name in Ireland.

Welcome to Rootschat, randnk.
Jane McCord married 1870 (Magherafelt registration district, vol.16 p.981) to William McPeake. The information on the death certificate (The Death Certificate states married at Macaquin or Macosquin, in Co Derry, Ireland at 18 years of age to William McPake.") is probably a mistake as Macosquin is near Coleraine not Magherafelt.

P.S.- Lavey is R.C. Parish not the civil parish

Dear Candie10

Give me some time and I will give you plenty of information on your distant relations in Australia - the McPeake descendants through the marriage of Catherine McPeake to Christopher Graham.
It will be easier if we can make direct contact  somehow.

Dear Candie10

I think that I have identified Holly Hill.
See message from Magherafelt District Council

Holy Hill is in the Magherafelt District Council area. It is off the main Gulladuff Road, Bellaghy.  The laneway is opposite Postal No. 125 Gulladuff Road, Bellaghy. BT45 8LT.  At the far end of this laneway there are a cluster of houses numbered from 126 - 138 Gulladuff Road, Bellaghy. BT45 8LT.  This area is known as Holly Hill.

I still have not pin pointed the locality on any map.

If you use a site like GoogleEarth or Google Maps just type in one of the addresses and you should be able to see a map of the area.

Dear Mac2468

Many thanks for the additional information.
The death certificate for Jane McPeake, nee McCord, states that she was married at Macaquin or more likely Macosquin in County Derry.
This is an error.
A couple of questions for you.
Do you have any idea why the name Macaquin or Macosquin would have been used?
Do you know if there is a place near Holly Hill with a similar name?
Secondly, does your father have an idea why William McPeake and Jane and children would have migrated to South Australia in 1878?

Wow!  And wow again!  This is just brilliant.  I'm also researching Henry McPeake and Mary Ann McPeake (my grandson's ancestors) and this chain of emails is just wonderful, putting together so many lost threads.  I live in Perth West Australia so I'll have a bash at sending a personal message to Candie10 and see if she's still watching this site.  For future records - for anyone else who happens across this site and needs to know - Mary Ann McPeake married William Henry Jeffery in Perth in 1876, only one year after she had migrated to WA.

Regards and thanks to all gave unstintingly of their time and effort!
Ann
