Looking for information on Thomas Henderson who was born in Dumfries, Scotland. Specifically, I am searching the name of Thomas’ parents. Thomas married Ann Gordon on 6 May 1864 in Newfoundland. They had at least six children, James Edgar, Jean, Reuben Gordon, Thomas, Robert, and William. They lived in Harbour Grace then possibly St. John’s.

You could try searching the Paper of Record site. They have a few years of the Harbor Grace Standard newspaper as well as one year of the St. John's Morning Chronicle. You have to join, but it is free.

To find Thomas Henderson's birth you will need to try the LDS family search
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
where you may get an index of a possible birth and then you can contact your local family histroy center and see if they have the microfilm you need or ask them to order it in.
Failing that Scotlands People http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
has all the BMDs for Scotland Both Statutory records from 1855 to present but Old Parish Records up to 1855. Also they have the 1841-1901 census Its a pay-per-view site but well worth the money . You can see an index and then use credits to view the actual image of the record.
Freecen http://www.freecen.org.uk/ Is supposed to have the complete 1841 index for Scotland and Ancestry.com and Ancestry.co.uk have the 1841-1901 census indexes for Scotland however you can't view any images .
I hope this is of some help in finding Thomas Henderson's parents in Dumfries.

I am trying to locate Thomas’ parents to prove or disprove he is my great-great grandfather’s brother.
My great-great-grandfather’s brother was born in Torthorwald in October 1839. It is believed he moved to Newfoundland. So I have been following the Thomas and Ann Henderson lead.

Thomas Henderson, November 6, 1891, Harbour Grace, cause of death Brights Disease, religion-Presbyterian, Occupation-Draper, age 51 years, Birth-Dumfries Scotland, Residence- Harbour Grace.
This looks like a strong match. Does anyone have access to a 1891 November issue of the Harbor Grace Standard? I haven't seen a transcription for this month and year on the Internet.

Sorry I can't help you with the immigration date. You could try ScotlandPeople for the 1861 census to see if Thomas is still in Scotland. But this is from the 1881 census for Torthorwald in case you don't have it.

I think we have a match on our trees!
I have Thomas born 18.10.1839 in Torthorwald to Robert Henderson and Jane Grierson. I have information on the extended family if you are interested. I had also been told that Thomas went to Newfoundland but had not followed the lead as yet. His brother William emigrated to Ohio so I wonder if they originally left Scotland together.
