Title: Hannah Mary Bloom b. abt 1833 Durham
Post by: brandsberg on Friday 04 February 05 22:11 GMT (UK)
I have gotten some information from someone off this board to look into a possible family member Hannah Mary Bloom, born abt. 1833 Auckland, Durham England, married to George Cherry born abt. 1821 Reeth, York England, Lancashire district married 1854 Hull, England.

They had a son John Cherry born Brotton, York, England, Lancashire, now Yorkshire district, North Riding
cr. 03-12-1874 Brotton, Yorkshire, England

Will someone do some  look-ups to confirm all this information. I am piecing from several sources and do not know for sure this information is correct.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

There is a  marriage registered in Hull on Dec 1854 9d 396 for George Cherry.  One of the possible wives is Hannah Bloom.    In 1871 they are in Brotton with Joseph 18, James 15, Elizabeth 8 and Thomas 3.   In 1881 they also have George age 10 and John age 7.     These latter two are b Brotton.  George is born in Reeth and Hannah and the others are all Bishop Auckland (Durham) except Thomas who was born in Shildon.  All good mining areas.    George was a miner.
Hope this is the right lot!

Me too. Am waiting for records to confirm, but the dates line up as well as the location. Have an exact of birth for my relative, so records should confirm, when they finally get here.

Is there another possibel wife? I have found both Bloom and  Rogers, both Mary. Could have been a previous marriage or incorrect information-trying to determine.

The only way to confirm who the wife was is to order the marriage certifcate - that can be done online.   Or get a child's birth certificate which gives the mother's maiden name but the marriage cert will give both fathers' names so it is a better buy.

Who did you order it from?  It must have been lost in the post.  Complain and see what has happened.   Perhaps someone could check the parish records to find baptisms for the children but they are unlikely to mention the mother's maiden name.  You really need certificates for that.

From earlier postings I have two marriage records for a George Cherry:
2. (2) St Anne's Church, Bishop Auckland, on 16 December 1855, rec. C2/1/11

Did George Cherry have two wives Hannah Bloom and Mary Rogers or are there two different George Cherrys.

Can someone help me on this?

As you say that Hannah is born in Bishop Auckland that would seem the most likely as people generally married in the  bride's parish.   Send for the birth certificate of whichever child is your ancestor and that will give her maiden name then you can be sure you have the correct one.
