Title: being cheeky now can i get help with this

can any one tell what sort of picture this is

it is of my grandfather aged 17 as he told us both him and his brother had there picture taken, it was framed within a mirrored edge fram,but  we opened the back of it recently and written on the back of the picture

is daniel 17

fair hair
blue eyes
pale grey shirt
pale grey suit
grey tie

i would love it to be fixed up a bit this is the only copy we have the original went to another member of the family when he died

Hi Carolyn  :)

You asked what sort of photo this is...it's an overpainted photograph.  Before colour photography was readily available, it was common for photographic studios to offer a colouring service.  The photos were printed, and then coloured by hand (a bit like we do today except we use photoshop, while they used brushes and paints and dyes).

i wondered because my papa said he had a photograph taken but when the frame was opened it was on thick card rather than paper and did not have the feel of a photo more textured like a painting

mudge i find it hard to as all the other picture he has dark hair (black & white ones though)

and i can only remember him with grey hair although my uncles do hope they take after him as when he died he still had a full head of hair as in the picture only grey.  so they live in hope of not going bald

ps your cat pic is great don't know how you managed to get it to pose for the pic though
