This is the people Jannette is looking for from the birth cert of James Cameron 1867.  We have been unable to decipher the first name of the grandmother who informed the brith.  It looks like Jenny or Fanny.

In 1871 there would be a James Cameron age 3/4 with an Elizabeth Cameron and perhaps a Jenny/Fanny? Cameron

I think it looks like Fanny
if you look at the J for James's name it looks totally different

Yes I have found them in 1871 at 73 King Street.

Elizabeth Cameron - lodger - age 38 born Paisley Renfrewshire - Hawker
James age 4 Born Glasgow
Fanny age 7       do

The head of the house is a Charles Stewart age 38.

I'm looking at the original now and it looks like they have partially scratched out hawker and written underneath that Elizabeth is a housekeeper.

thanks for this , and it might be close , i couldnt ask , but my Brother who has moments of remembering , said the name Charles Andrew Stewart springs to mind
we found a Marriage cert that says Charles and Agnes Stewart were is parents
both dead by time of marrige 1890
think this could be the lead , all we need now is an early death for them as we were lead to believe his folks died when he wasyoung and he was placed in the workhouse /poor house

i think possibly the person who wrote James name would have been the registrar  No?
as the Grandmother would only sign , not fill in the whole thing

I should also mention that on the 1871 census both Elizabeth and Charles are unmarried.

an after thought Fanny aged 7 ,  she a Daughter of Elizabeths or the Stewarts
so maybe Elizabeth Mother was a Fanny ,
could be why nothing is showing

No the census definitely says Fanny Cameron and James Cameron.

The order on the census is a s follows:

Charles Stewart - Head - unmarried
Elizabeth Cameron - Lodger - unmarried
James Cameron - son
Fanny Cameron - daughter

added: It doesn't indicate a relationship between Elizabeth and Charles but one could be implied.

just a lodger...?!

I found Fanny's birth

 ;D

think they might have been hiding a few things from the enumerator

I think the mystery of who James's father was is all but solved.  But why they wre hiding the relationship, or why they didn't marry  - or even pretend they were, is another matter.  Why pose as a frowned on single mother rather than a married one?

mab - just thought, does Charles have an occupation?  It might help to  find a death or if he married. Charles Stewart is too common lol.

thank everyone for the help , many hands eh , yes i expect Elizabeth will have had a death early on as well , if not Frances the Daughter  ,
seems no one knew about her , as on relations the Stewart side ,
my Grandparents  had several babies all born premeture or small also twins
somewhere along the lines we are certain one was a Frances ,
we havent looked into any of these as its been so hard to prove anything ,
so back to marriage in 1890 and babies born and not living long up to 1888
happy hunting i think :'(
