Title: 1881 Census Lookup
Post by: suey on Monday 19 April 04 13:49 BST (UK)
Would the 1881 on disc be likely to turn up someone whom I cannot find in Family Search ?

If so could someone please have a look for this chap David S Carter born c1853 Lewes.

Thanks - Sue

What does the S stand for?  I've found people using their middle names as first names.

I'll have a check on the discs when I get home from work - unless someone beats me to it!

Cheers,
Pam

Age can be off on censuses and Horsted Keyes is just north of Lewes -

Household:

James CARTER  Head M Male 65 Horsted Keynes, Sussex, England Labourer
Ann CARTER  Wife M Female 60 Horsted Keynes, Sussex, England
David CARTER  Son U Male 30 Horsted Keynes, Sussex, England Farm Labourer
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dwelling      Ludwell
Census Place  Horsted Keynes, Sussex, England

Please - when giving census details, would you please include the source - this is needed to 'prove' ancestry.

No sorry KHartley - this is not my man, both his parents had died by 1881 and Davids birth was registered in Lewes and I have him in 1861 as born Lewes.

I'd forgotten about Horsted Keynes being so close though thanks for the reminder.

Boongie Pam - I have no idea what the S could stand for, he came up on the 1871 as David S.

Thankyou for looking Pam - I had a feeling he did not want to be found - theres something odd going on with the children in this family.

I don't think he died as I hav'nt found a death reg. but I do think theres been some name changing going on. :-\

Oh well another one for the back burner
Thanks again - Sue
