Title: Tramore RYANs
Post by: Arranroots on Sunday 11 January 09 11:13 GMT (UK)
At long last I seem to have a breakthrough with my Waterford RYANs!

(Please see previous threads - although there's not much on 'em!)

My Patrick RYAN was born in 1875, I now think in Tramore, son of Denis (a butcher) and Anne msn Unknown.

Via the Tramore library website I have come up with various deaths, which suggest the couple had at least six children who didn't survive infancy and at least one other, Anne, who did.  There should be other survivors to be found.

Deaths witnessed by Denis also suggest that his parents were Joseph (died aged 80 in 1882 in Main St, Tramore) and Bridget (died aged 74 in 1864 in Rathmoylan).

Can anyone help with further information on this family please?

I am ideally looking for something to link Patrick Joseph RYAN b 1875 with Denis and Anne's Patrick, to prove he is the same chap.  I already know that my chap was the son of Denis RYAN a butcher from Waterford - but don't want to make 2+2=5!!

Anything else about the family, such as MIs, school records, anything would be most welcome.

Or ideas about where I might get them?

Many thanks, Arranroots  ;)

Tramore Library has a copy of the book "Tramore of long ago" by Andy Taylor, in it is a street directory for 1894, there might be some Ryans there.

Thanks Vasaborg.

We have made a trip over but had no idea at the time where to look, so we stayed at Woodstown - so near and yet so far - and didn't do any focused searching at all!

Maybe next time - unless anyone is going??

(Have just realised there's a remote chance of finding Patrick on the 1911 census, since he marries in Neath in 1912 and should be out of the army by then - keep you fingers crossed that he says where the ?*~#  he was born!!)

Hello dafox

Welcome to Rootschat!  :)

If you think you might be related to my RYANs - or even if you can prove that I am or am not related to the Tramore RYANs that I have found - I would welcome your comments.

Currently I am pretty stumped!

Kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

I am cock-a-hoop, having discovered in the 1911 census that Patrick Joseph RYAN definitely was from Tramore!

 :D

If anyone has access to the parish records - which I think should be Drumcannon - I would certainly appreciate a check on this family, as listed above.

At least now I can be certain what I'm aiming at!

Next stop - those wretched military records again - oh woe!

There's a Patrick Ryan born to a father Denis in 1875 in Tramore on this site; http://waterford.rootsireland.ie/
