Wonder if anyone can help.
I have a birth certificate dated 1921 with father's profession listed as 'Ex soldier' I am 99% sure that it is not referring to a soldier in the British Army so any ideas as to 'what sort' of a soldier this could have been, and where to look for records. The certificate is for a mayo born person but the father came from Sligo.
Many thanks
Marian

Acting on the advice of a PM to 'look again' at the possibility of the British Army I have searched Ancestry and discovered a medal rolls index card with the correct name for WW1 for the Irish Guards giving a regiment number. Any ideas how I could find out the birth place or any other personal details to see if this is my GF?

If you click on the above link and type in Mayo militia into search there are many Mayo men's Discharge Document details listed. It gives place of birth, and age at discharge.
