a bit of a warning the last few days trojans have been finding there way into my computer ive had 3 got them out with the free avg virus protection system.

hi nick i was only making roots people aware that there was trojans about i persanaly think they do the rounds every so often.I was not telling people to put avg on their computers my computer is the oldest in our house we have 5 one each were the other 4 have good anti virus systems i dont think its worth it with mine it may be xp but its out of the ark.But we also have clean up disks.

As far as I am concerned a trojan is not a virus, in the sense that it spreads from computer to computer. An anti-virus program may not necessarily catch a trojan or if it does then it relys on the computer user to stop installing the fake anti-virus or anti-spyware program on to their computer.
Usually a message box is displayed in the middle of the screen saying OK or Cancel. If the user clicks on Cancel the message box is redisplayed. If the user clicks OK out of frustration to make the message box go away then they are authorising the download and installation of the trojan program.
Trojans can be very difficult to get rid of because they require specialised programs - especially to remove registry entries. Some anti-virus programs may just remove the main executable file that runs the trojan but leave behind many of the other files and registry entries.

They are sometimes very difficult to clean as downside says. Ocasionally a "Dialer" is left behind, so it starts all over again. The files rename themselves as you delete, so they are still around.
Probably best to shut the browser down totally via Taskmanager. (Wish I could get that into OH's head)

I think the word trojan is being used these days as another word for malware. Trojans may not have the power to replicate in the same way as viruses, but they can be just as destructive.
