Title: Thomas DYER baptism look-up please - completed
Post by: Penholder on Tuesday 03 March 09 18:03 GMT (UK)
The Thomas DYER I'm looking for had parents called Samuel Ebenezer & Thomasine.   He was age 8 in 1871.  According to the Census he was born in Northumberland, Sunderland but the best birth registration I can find is at Easington, Durham, in Q2 1863.

Samuel Ebenezer DYER was a plumber in the Royal Navy and Easington doesn't look too far from the sea.

If anyone could confirm if this is the right or wrong Thomas I should be very grateful.

Many thanks,

Diana

Update - the birth registration in Belford turned out to be the right one.   He was baptised at St. Paul's on 20th February 1862 and his sister Tiney was also baptised there a few months earlier.   Many thanks indeed to Christine "c-side" for doing the checking for me.

Hi Diana

Looking at the 1871 census image, it says his birthplace was Northumberland N. Sunderland

Sunderland is in Durham, but North Sunderland is in Northumberland, and the birth registration is probably this one, Belford district covers North Sunderland

Mar 1862 Belford    10b   307    DYER    Thomas

Hi Barbara

Thank you very much indeed for checking the Census and telling me what it really says!

I had seen the other registration and had it lined up as my next try if Easington didn't work out.   When I looked on the map Belford looked further inland.   Also, although it's only a year's difference the Belford registration would make Thomas 9 and not 8.

I will keep my fingers crossed that some kind soul will still check Easington for me but I will now post a request on the Northumberland boards too.

Many thanks once again for your kind help.

Diana
