Title: Army Comrades - "Blueshirts"
Post by: RoryT on Tuesday 31 March 09 15:10 BST (UK)
One of my ancestors served with the Irish Brigade in the Spanish Civil War on the Facist side.  He was from Carrick-on-Suir.  Does anyone know if there are any records regarding those who served at that time.

Blueshirts were, as you say, a fascist organisation. So can, indeed do, arouse a fair amount of controversy even today. Therefore those that have the information you are looking for would probably be reluctant to divulge it!

Wikipedia has a fair article on the Blueshirts  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blueshirts)

My guess would be that you would have to read the books given in that list in the Wikipedia article, and then try contacting suitable people you might find.

Your other source might be in Spain, as there has been articles published there about the Blueshirts. In fact it is more likely that the information would be available in Spain - even though they were on the losing side in the Spanish Civil War.

Hi,

There were 13 men with Franco from Carrick-on-Suir. Which one are you after?
