I am looking for info on Robert Bush born circa 1841 in Mellis, Suffolk. Father was possibly Rueben.
By 1881 he had moved to Marske on Sea in Yorkshire and had married a Charlotte Wallis.
Any info prior to 1881 would be much appreciated.
Regards, Dennis

Hi Dennis
I've just noticed that Matilda is in the 1851 Census with Benjamin as her father but in the 1861 she is with Reuben as her father.
Do you think he could be Reuben Benjamin or Benjamin Reuben?

Hello Wendy,
Thanks for your many, prompt and helpful replies. A lot of info for me to take in! I will look at it all and see what I can make of it, then get back to you.
From some of the local info, can I assume you are Suffolk based?
Thanks again for your generous help.
Best wishes,
Dennis

Hi Dennis
I do live on the Suffolk/Norfolk border, although I'm from Berkshire, but all the info was from the censuses & IGI.
I found London [mid 1800's] relatives from Mendelsham Suffolk, which I had no idea about when we retired here and
I believe it is not too far from Mellis/Yaxley, which is very close to Diss where I shop.
Most records, I believe, would be in Ipswich.
Hope you can make sense of my info ;D

Hi Wendy,
Thanks for your reply. I think what you have found for the Bush family fits together well in spite of the confusion with Rueben/Benjamin. I wonder if Rueben is some sort of derivative from Benjamin? Or, as you say, he maybe had two names?
I have been looking at death references for the various children and I think I have found credible ones for Ann, John, Mary Ann but not for Samuel.
Ditto for Maria and Benjamin. Maria's looks OK but Benjamin, difficult again, has a too young death age.
I have found Robert in 1871 at RG 10/4851/109/13 and maybe(?) in 1861 at RG 9/4491/50.

Dennis

Hi Wendy,
Thanks for that. I did not find that one, cannot imagine why not, but it looks good to me. However, thus far I have not found him in the 1881 census.

Hi Wendy and Rosie,
Thank you both for your latest contributions. Pity we cannot find Rueben in 1881 but maybe he was in Hospital or some other institution?
Thanks for the burial details for Rueben and Ann, they seem to fit fine Rosie. I have possible deaths for John in JAS 1846, Mary Ann in OND 1859 and Maria in JAS 1876. Nothing yet for Samuel.
Best wishes to both,
Dennis

Hi Dennis
NBI burial for John as per your possible is
John Bush buried 10th August 1846 age 39 at St Peter, Ipswich.
There is nothing I can find for Mary Ann or James that matches your dates and no trace of Samuel either.
