Title: Nonconformist marriage?
Post by: Fue on Sunday 12 April 09 15:35 BST (UK)
Does anyone have access to the nonconformist marriages in and around Cardiff?

I am looking for the marriage of William Charles Williams and Norah Hearn between the dates of Jun 1872 and end 1874.

The couple lived in Cardiff and Rumney.

Heres hoping ::)

If you check the 1881 census you will find a stepchild s/n Ford which suggests Norah was previously married so any re-marriage would be as Ford - not Hearn

Hi Carole

Many thanks for your reply and yes, you are right, I am looking for a Nora Ford  marrying William Charles Williams.  I have recently been working on her family - 'Hearn' tree and it slipped my mind that she had married once before (her husband died in 1872).

There appears to be no marriage for them but I thought there may be a chance there was a non-conformist marriage because it is a possiblilty his father was non-conformist.

Thanks for that Carole, this site definately looks very promising. :D

I did do a quick search for a known non-conformist marriage and it showed 'no results' so it is not perfect but it is still a promising site.  I will do a proper search tomorrow. :)

Hi

I have a feeling that this couple never married

have another look at the 1881 - all children from Henry to Norah have a second initial - F.  If you check freebmd they were all registered with the second christian name of Ford

Yes, aparently they all (but one) have a middle name of Ford in honour of  John Ford who died in a railway accident.

I checked the dates and the first child born  to William Williams and Norah could not have been John Ford's so they were all William Williams-es

John Ford and Norah moved from Torrington, Devon to Cardiff and John Ford died a matter of months later. But William Williams appeared out of nowhere (I cannot establish, due to his common name) and only shows on the 1881 Welsh census.

I do have all the childrens birth certs but I just cannot find a marriage and you may well be right, they may  never  have married. He may have already been married :o

However with the find of a 'possible' father being a non-comformist, I thought I would give it a try  but this guy (William Williams) is my brick wall so I did'nt expect it to be that easy  :-\ :'(

Thanks Carole
