Hello,
I am looking for George Elsey on the 1891 & the 1901 census. I know from the 1911 census that he was born in 1887 +/- and that he was born in Nettleton, Lincs. I am afraid that I know nothing else about his early life.
I hope that the above information is enough to go on and that there aren't lots of George Elsey's born in Lincs.!!
Thank you in anticipation
Louise

here is georges mother with her mother
1871
RG10/3421/8/9
ann elsey age 47. b. croxby. head.(wid)
robert age 13. b. binbrook. occ; agr.lab.son.
eliza age 12. b. ditto. daughter.
charles age 11. b. ditto. son.
living at rothwell,lincs
reg.dist; caistor.
so it looks like ann elsey remarried to a mr colbeck between 1871-1891
-
here they are in 1861 transcribed as eley
1861
RG9/2383/89/7.
ann eley age 38. b. croxby. head.(married). shepherds wife.
jane age 12. b. binbrook. daughter.
thomas age 7. b. ditto. son.
eliza age 4. b. ditto. daughter.
robert age 2. b. ditto. son.
charles age 1. b. ditto. son.
living at;welton village,welton-le-wold,lincs;
reg.dist. louth
so anns husband died between 1861-1871 probably in either lough or caistor reg dist
will see if i can find them together in 1851 with daughter jane.
-
think this is the daughter jane in 1851 with her mothers parents
1851
HO107/2112/146/12
william smith age 60. b. tealby, lincs. occ. carrier. head.
fanny age 54. b. claxby,lincs. wife.

jane elsey age 1. b. binbrook. grand daughter.
william robinson age 62. b. tetney,lincs. occ. agr.lab(wid).visitor
living at binbrook,lincs
reg.dist; louth
-
think this is the marriage of ann to mr elsey
name; mary ann hanson
y.o.r. 1846
qtr; apr/may/jun
dist; louth
vol; 14
page; 836
on the same page amongst others; george elsey
so if this is right then
1/ the fanny smith in 1851 was either married to a mr hanson prior to her marriage to william smith or had 3 children out of wedlock and her maiden name was hanson would need to find her on 1841 to hopefully determine which was the case.
2/will need to find george elsey and mary ann in 1851 hopefully her age and birthplace will match
up with the ann elsey found on 1861,1871

The only HANSON bap at Croxby in the IGI was 1817 William (son of William and Frances)
(perhaps Wm HANDSON to Frances FLINTON 1817 at Claxby by Normanby, see IGI)
There was no Thomas HANSON ... the entry you quote was actually
Frances HANSON 45 Widow (crossed out because it was not an occupation) - age in "Female" column.
William HANSON buried 17 Sept 1834 aged 48
-
thank geoffe i see now it is frances
will modify the census entry
-
Thank you to you both. It was amazing how much you found out in one evening. I have had to wait a long time to find out where George Elsey came from and once I found that you two forged ahead and built me a whole family tree.
Thank you once again,
Louise
