Thanks

Hi there,

There is no obituary but a small write up saying:

Donald Manson

Ottawa. Feb. 4 --Donald Manson, general manager of the Canadian Broadcasting
Corp 1951-52 and a pioneer of the Canadian radio industry, died at his home here
yesterday. He was 73.

I'm not sure if he is the right one. Hopefully this rings a bell. There is a third
Toronto newspaper that is no longer in print but not available on line.

Regards,

Nancy

Hi Nancy

Is it possible for you to search for obituaries without the date of death or burial?

I am researching family that I know lived in Toronto during the early 1920s but I have no information after that time.

Thanks.

Susan

Thanks Nancy, that is the right one. I have been trying to find out more about his life in Canada after leaving Scotland without having to visit the National Archives where I believe a lot of his personal papers have been deposited. There would probably be more in a Ottawa newspaper.

Now that I know that is the correct one, I will look a little more and see if I can come up with something more. I will let you know if I find anything.

Hi Nancy

Thanks for your reply.  Here's what I know about my great-aunt Florence...

Florence May Doling, b. 1892 Deptford St. Paul, emigrated to Canada in 1913 and went to Toronto.  In December 1918, Florence married Allan Hunter in York.

Allan Hunter b. 1894 Broxburn, Scotland, emigrated to Canada in 1912.  Allan served in Canadian forces in WWI.  Allan's parents, William and Sarah (Graham), brother Samuel and sister Kezia resided in Toronto also.  Address on WWI Attestation papers was 53 Wright Avenue and address at discharge in January 1918 was 114 Wright Avenue.

Allan and Florence had a stillborn child in 1919.  At the time of the child's death, Florence and Allan resided at 44 McKenzie Crescent.  Allan's occupation was listed as city fireman.

In the 1922 Toronto Directory, there is an entry for Allan Hunter, city fireman, at 1453 Davenport Rd.

This is where I hit the brick wall and have no idea what happened to the family after this.

I would appreciate any assistance you can provide.  Thank you so much.

Regards

Susan

Hi Nancy:
I'm wondering if there might be something for James Mumford, born 26 October 1826, England, died 26 October 1912 in Toronto.  First wife was named Susannah and she died in 1869 in Toronto.  Second wife was named Emily and she died in 1888 in Toronto.  James owned butcher shops in Toronto.  He immigrated c1857.  Wondering if there might be an obituary, since he had lived in Toronto a long time.
Thank you.

Hi Nancy.  I'm having trouble with my internet again.  So, I couldn't reply earlier.

If I may let you know later?  We are supposed to be going out of town for the day.  Thank you for your kind offer.  My family is from Toronto, so I would be grateful for another lookup.  Thank you.

Hi Nancy:

May I ask for two lookups please?  I'm more interested in William Vaus Mumford, born 29-Nov-1892, Toronto, died 12-Jan-1963, Toronto; wife was Gertrude Sophia.  I have additional information about him, if it is needed.  If you find something, may I ask please that it be sent by pm?

If you have time, please, would there be anything for Dora Emmeline Mumford (nee Stuart or Stewart), born 11-Sep-1861, Lambton Ontario, died 5-July-1935, Toronto.  Husband was William Richard Vaus Mumford.

Thank you very much, Nancy.

Hi Nancy, I have an obituary for a Henry William Hutton, who died 17th January 1987 in the Ajax-Pickering hospital, alas in this obituary, only the christian names for the Grandchildren are given, is it possible that there might be a 2nd obit in another paper? I have attached the obit that I have.

Many thanks

Bowman

Hi,

I'm not Nancy :), but I did a quick check of the Star from Dec 11 1940 - Dec 26 1940 and there are no McInnes obits.

You can check with the Brampton library - maybe they can tell you where a 1940s obit for Brampton might have been published.

Run .. thankyou for looking. I did contact the Brampton Library .. and they found ...................

page 20 Dec 12 1940 issue of Brampton Conservator .. "Deaths - McGinnis Meadowvale, died Wednesday, Dec 11 1940 at Peel Memorial Hospital, Brampton, funeral Saturday 3 pm., home of Mr Ken Gunimerson Meadowvale. Interment Streesville Cemetery."
I have a photo of the tombstone in Streetsville Cem. ... and it is spelled McInnes on the stone.
I believe he was born in Lambton County .. and went west in the late 1890's .. where his wife past away at a young age ( having at least 9 kids) .. she died at Yorkton Sask, 1896 .. so John most have returned to Ontario.
I was hoping for a more lengthy death report .. than the small one .. that the library found.

A long shot, BUT, if you don't ask the question, you don't get the answer  ;D

I did take out a subscription to view the Toronto Star archives and gleaned all mentions of Archbell, but this death did not appear.

Mary Elizabeth Archbell (nee Sharp), died 1943 in Toronto.  I know that she is buried at Resthaven Memorial Garden, along with her husband, George Thomas who died in 1945 (got his death notice from Toronto Star).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nancy,

Not sure if your still doing these look ups but even some advice would be great.

Have 2 relatives that died in Toronto and trying to find the obits for them.
Samuel Owens died around 1948, born 12 Dec 1883 in Ayrshire and his wife Isabella Owens nee McKinnon died about 1953, born 19 July, 1870 in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. They lived at 129 Lee Avenue, Toronto.

I have tried several places but no luck in finding them. Pages of the Past and Ontario obits. On Ontario obits, tried several ways but when I put in Owens, it comes back with other people that died in Owen Sound, On.

  Any advice appreciated.
Thank you,
Glen

Hey Glen - I’m also a descendant of Samuel and Isabella Owens, and I live in Toronto (near 129 Lee actually).
Any luck finding any more information?
