VERPILLOT, Private, AIME CONSTANT, 4885, 53rd Bn., 2nd Company, Australian Infantry, A.I.F., Killed in action 19 July 1916. Age 25. Son of Charles Eugene and Berthe Verpillot, of 15, Barracluff Avenue, Bondi, New South Wales. Native of Neuchatel, Switzerland.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
