Title: Searching census by reference number query
Post by: Lady Di on Thursday 04 June 09 10:54 BST (UK)

I know this has been asked before but I am having a problem searching for any census on Ancestry when I know the reference number eg RG09 etc

My Ancestry search screen for any specific census, eg 1861,  doesn't have any place to enter the reference details.

I only get names, birth date/location, Lived In (Location), Family members, Keyword and gender.

Nothing else is available  ???

I know the reference fields use to be there - anyone have any idea why it's vanished or where it's been moved to, or how to access these?

Thanks

Di

I went from the "uk census collection".

Oh excellent - thanks Pauline, that's the page I needed.

I have no idea why my standard census pages don't have the reference boxes - very frustrating.  ::)

Thanks a lot

Strange, for me when clicking on Pauline's link, I don't get the reference fields, I also tried and noticed I don't get the reference fields if I use the new Tab System.

In my normal way of using Ancestry I do get the reference fields

Wonder if it's how each user has their preference set up?

I don't know if this is the cause but the censuses are grouped by year with no detailed search screens.

If you scroll down and select a specific census ie England, the search screens expand.

That's interesting as I dont get any reference fields on any census screen UNTIL I used Pauline's link.

It may have something to do with preferences but I can't find how to change those.

Life was easy before they "improved" things  ::)

I tried all England census screens Rog and none have the reference fields - for me anyway

Maybe I was just having a bad day  ;D

Thanks to Pauline's link I can now find all the pages I was looking for

Thanks folks

When you used Pauline's link, did you then have to log in?

and were you logged in when you 1st tried?

I was already logged in when I used Pauline's Link.

Why? Do you think that may make a difference?

My system automatically logs me in when I select Anc. from Favourites ....   mmmmm, that makes me wonder if it's something to do with what's in Fav's.

I shall investigate further  ;D

Ok, when I 1st tried Pauline's link I wasn't logged in and didn't get the reference fields.

I just tried Pauline's link now whilst logged in and did get the reference fields.

I'll have to play with this more tomorrow when I'm not so tired.

I also automatically login when I select from Favourites.
