I have 100s of photos of people around Bishop Auckland.
Many have local photographers mounts and look to be around 1900.
Has anybody compiled a list of photographers and their timescale.
colin
I will put some up, but I will have to reduce them first as they are all over 1Mb.

Hi Colin...Welcome to Rootschat....

Here is a starter front and back

Sorry about the size, but the file is small as I have used high compression, this should let you see the detail.
More to follow.
How many should I post ?

More.

What a great collection of photos.
I am not sure what you want done though. :(
If you need them restored I suggest you 1) scan them with no compression and resize them to get under the Roots limit. and 2) Do seperate threads for each photo

I'm hoping for details of the date and the people. Some I know or can guess at. Others are ????

Oh WoW Colin...How lucky are you 8) 8) 8)...Irene is right...separate threads are best...you will get an individual response to each one then and it would be a good idea to request a date in the subject title...Good Luck!
Irene...I think he got our share ;D ;D ;D ;D

Well girls, if you want to play with them and MANY more, how do you want them ?
How do I get them to you ?
I already have them scanned, but they tend to be bigger than 1Mb even at my default jpeg settings. I always scan as colour and I don't have many of the originals (they were borrowed to scan).
Colin
PS this is my permission to play !

Wow there
I think you are posting too many on one thread. It is best to give each photo its own thread so restorers will not miss one.
There are some tips posted on how to scan here
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=198165.0
So as not to overload it is also best to post only two or three a day. This way other posters get a chance.

Wonderful photos...I'd like to see them without the compression :)
First one, about 1900 to 1905, no later than that I'd think...The photographers were in business for about 45 years.
Second and third, not much to go on...even the shoulders of the woman have been cut out of the picture...but the black mounts with gold lettering are likely 1890s...
Fourth, children are hard to date but these ones are wearing shoes rather than boots, so I'd guess after about 1910 or so, maybe just before the war...
Fifth, just a guess based on the style of mount, about 1900 or so. A scan of the back of the photo might be helpful, proving there is any printing on the back.
Sixth, no clue. After 1888...not very helpful.
Seventh, 1910-1912 or so. Too many men in the photo to be during the war. Don't you just love those hats! A high-res scan of this one would do us all good :D
The last two, early during the war...but you knew that :)
Wonderful photos. Cheers,

Thanks to all.
I wasn't sure that the Soldiers were not Regular Army judging by the Braid. What might his rank have been ?

PS Very strange to see colour versions (not tints), were colours that vivid in those times ?
