Title: boatmen in dudley

Does anyone know where i can get information on the boatmen in dudley around 1850s were they worked name   of there boats etc wre they stayed in dudley etc.

John Walker and Sarah Payton .John was from Bromyard in Herefordshire Sarah was from Sedgley

Yes that is them do you know where they may have the records about what boat or company they may have worked on.

Hi Robert, I would imagine that John worked on the Canal, somewhere?  If he was just a Labourer he would have been employed to load and unload Cargo on and off the Narrow Boats, so I wouldn't think he worked on any particular Boat.  You can try Dudley Archives, ask them, but I doubt if many records of employment are available?  Best of luck from Linell.

John was a boatman and not a labourer so he may have worked on either the coal barges or salt barges as that was the main cargo in that period
