Hi all
Would someone kindly look up the Tasmanian birth records for a Reginald C McMinn. He married Ellen P. Buckley in NSW in 1895. I would think his father was one of Washington McMinn and Phoebe Gee's sons, Alexander Washington, or William Cranston.
I am trying to establish the exact relationship between Philip Palmer, son of Catherine Matilda McMinn and William Cooke's daughter, Constance, who died at Fromelles, and Reginald W McMinn who died in 1818 near Harbonniers.
In Philip's war records, Reginald McMinn is called a cousin.
Thanks

Hello,
Have you looked at the service record for Reginald Washington McMinn? There is a letter from his mother and his father and a copy of his will. The letter from his mother is most interesting.
His place of birth was Sydney he is the son of Reginald C McMinn,
Reginald Charles McMinn died aged 68 in the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Newtown in 1936 #4208 no parents listed in the online index. The hospital may well have other records. est dob 1868. His marriage certificate should include his parents names. #36549 for 1895.
A transcription agent is the best way to go I use

Can't see any thing on the Tasmanian online records that would help.
At one stage they may have been in Victoria, there is a death for a 18 month old Francis Alexander McMinn born in Tasmania parents Alexander McMinn and Amelia Clark, same parents also lost Franc(i)s Alexandrina in 1873 aged 10 weeks. Her father is Alexander Washington on her birth reegistration and mother given as Emily.
good luck

Thanks Regross
Yes I have checked the War Records. I am trying to find his father, ie. Reginald C McMinn. He does not seem to be on Birth in NSW BMD, his marriage is there, but not his birth. He did not show up in Victoria, so just wanted to check the Tasmanian BMD for him.

Hi again
had a good look at Victorian records found most of them married there:
these listed as born in Hobart:
1869 Emily Manly Egerton MCMINN to William MILNE #3159
1873 Francis Jane MCMINN to James FELTON # 4677
1877 Alexander Washington MCMINN to Hannah GILBERT # 2114
1886 William Cranston Cup MCMINN to Mary Elizabeth WILKIE # 4838
As you mentioned this man I looked further and found
Edith Emily born 1887
Francis Charles b 1889
Francis is too young to have been Reginald Washington's father.

If anyone is wondering why there are two threads on almost the same subject, it happened as I was reading a Completed thread of mine after I started the new post re Reginald McMinn, and found a message at the bottom from Scotts, who had then sent me a PM and started a new thread.
Around that time I had been very sick and had been in hospital, so somehow missed them both. I have posted this on the other thread as well
Your patience appreciated

Hi all
I have received the marriage certificate for Reginald Charles McMinn and Ellen Buckley, and all it has done is confuse me even more.
Father's name is given as Washington Charles McMinn, Barrister and mother's name is given as Kate Gee.
Washington (sometimes wrongly called George Washington) McMinn was indeed a barrister, but he married Phoebe Gee. Maybe she had a nickname.
However, Reginald gives his age at marriage as 26, therefore birthdate of 1869 and Washington McMinn died in 1865.
Cando, you came up with two unnamed males born to Washington and Phoebe, the 1857 one is William Cranston Cuppage McMinn, but I have not got a name to go with the 1853 birth. I wonder if there is a corresponding death?
I also wonder whether Catherine Matilda McMinn had any children born to her in Tasmania before she went to Sydney and set up house with William Henry Cooke. William and Catherine never registered any of their children in NSW. The first of their children that I know of was Daisy, born 1871, and I only know that because she died in 1876.
Very intriguing

? Scott pm'd two birth names and I advised him/her to contact you as the McMINN's are not my family. I have unfortunately deleted the pm's.
Perhaps you could send him/her a pm.
Have sent you a pm.
Cheers
