I'm trying to ID my MacDonald ancestor but I have no idea when photo was taken. I've tried googling and census with photographer's name but no luck.
Any help much appreciated.

Unfortunately, this style of dress changes about as often as the rules of chess, so the best clue may be the shirt collar.
Here is one from about 1900..... (give it an extra 5 years to catch on in Lochgilphead).

As Hibee pointed out,the shirt collar is about the only clue, came out in 1909 & was superceded by a shorter one during the war,but would have to say 1910-20.

thanks all for the help. This would make him my grandmother's brother. I agree that highland dress hasn't changed much over the years.
It would still be nice to date the photo studio. I'll be contacting the Lochgilphead council for advice.
