Hi,

Help with census look up please

1861
Thomas JONES b1829 Newton, Montgomery collier
Elizabeth          b1836 Neath Abbey ?
Mary Jane         b1858 Aberdare 
John                 b1859 Aberdare

1871 same family as above but with

Samuel             b1867 Aberdare
William              b1870 Aberdare

family living 55 Gadlys Street Aberdare Glamorgan in 1881 dau. Mary Jane was widowed her married name THOMAS.

Thanks for info. 1871 looks to be the family as it links in with 1881 census but slightly confusing as son John born Aberdare on 1881, 1861c and born Neath 1871c  :-\

Is Elizabeth 1871c born Neath the same as the Elizabeth 1861c born Aberdare? if so, that means he should be on another census with 1st wife & dau. Margaret b1848 Brynmawr, Monmouth.

Where to find Thomas Jones in 1851  :-\ 

I've already posted a request for Montgomeryshire to see if anyone could find Thomas on 1841 or 1851 census but if this his him in 1861 and his daughter Margaret Jones was born in Brynmawr, Monmouth he could well be living in Monmouth 1851.

Any thoughts please  :)

Think it could be my interpretation that's at fault. The enumerator has put a ditto under Glamorganshire for the place of birth of Mary J & John in 1871, and I transcribed it as if the ditto was for Neath as well. No doubt it's the same family as they are living at the correct address in 1871.

Well, Margaret and Thomas might be in Monmouthshire, but as Brynmawr was in Breconshire at the time, who knows where they were. It's near the boundary, so could be either. I looked earlier, but without success. It was a highly populated area and no shortage of Jones families to check.
