Hello
Would someone please help me find the first marriage of Albert Edward Clark? He was born 1895 in Colchester, and on his second marriage certificate, it states that he is the "divorced husband of E. Ossie (I hoenstly can't read what it says) Levene (once again, debatable). He got married for the second time in 1923, aged 28.
Any help appreciated !!!
:D

Hi again
If he was born in 1895 and remarried in 1923, his first marriage has to be between 1913 and 1921 I'd guess, but I can't see any Albert Clarks marrying anyone with a name close to Levene. I wonder if he could have married abroad?
Have you found any WW1 records for him as that might name his wife as next of kin?

No, hadn't thought of looking for that! Is there a website where I can search (other than Ancestry!) ?
-
Can you post part of the certificate with the first wife's name on it so that we can try to help with deciphering it?

Hi,
I wonder if this is him........Divorce records on TNA Catalogue:
J77/1906/9603 Appellant Elsie Clark Wife's petition for divorce Respondent Albert Edward Clark (1922)
You can ask for quote for copying and posting to you; I recently got a set for under £10 and sent 1st class post! Very interesting to read. ;)

looks as if it could be right...only prob that he is albert rather than alfred, though i guess it could have been mistranscribed?!?!

I wonder if the "Clark" became "Clarke" for the first wedding. I have a Pain line that appears with several variations. ::)
No location shown for the divorce papers; just the names.

Any idea how long you had to wait until you could apply for a divorce then, as that might narrow the time down? Just thinking if he divorced in 1922, if it was say 4 years he must have married between 1913 and 1918 during WW1.
-
I've no idea; my couple were married for over 20 years before the divorce.

This must be him in 1881 because of the son Robert and his POB
RG 11 piece 1795 folio 64 page 7
Cornelius Clark 59 born Fordham Essex farm labourer
Eliza Clark 50 born Bures Suffolk
George Clark 9 born Layer de La Hay
Robert Clark 8 born Layer de La Hay
This could be him in 1841
HO 107 piece 342 book 5
Cornelius Clark 20 Layer de la Hay Ag Lab
Ellen Clark 20
Martha Clark 15
( doesn't give relationships)
I'll see what the in betweens give

Thank you :)
I had found 1881 already, and Jen had kindly found me 1841 too :) I can't understand what relationship the three of them would be to each other though? Very strange :s
-
Brother and sisters?
There is a marriage of a Cornelius Clark in 1840 in Lexden Essex and on the same page is an Ellenor Wilsmore, so perhaps they were husband and wife and Martha was his sister.
Lexden Essex July quarter 1840 12 205.
Maybe she died and he remarried as he was 51 when his son Robert was born. Unless of course George and Robert were the youngest of a long line and the rest had left home!

i have inadvertently made this topic twice !
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=400137.new#new
i think he must have married twice ? ???
-
Hi just seen the other one.
Stick completed onto the heading of one of them and that should stop people answering twice :D :D
-
i think i'll do it on this one, as the other one's title is more relevant! :)

NB to anyone interested - I ordered the divorce papers yesterday and they arrived today; make for an interesting read!
Have started up a related query (because of course, nothing is ever straight forward!) here in case anyone is interested or able to help! http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,400415.new.html#new
