hi,
I have all census info on the Matty and Baker sides of my family tree but, strangely have not been able to locate either families on the 1861 census, and would like to find them.
census info I have either side of 1861 (1851+1871)
The Matty side:
1851 Deerhurst Gloucester
Joseph Matty, h, 50, ag lab, Deerhurst
Sarah Matty, w, 45, Deerhurst
Mariah Matty, d, 21, field work, Deerhurst
George Matty, s, 15, field work, Deerhurst
William Matty, s, 10, Deerhurst
Eliza Matty, d, 7, Deerhurst
1871 Deerhurst Gloucester
Joseph Matty, h, 69, ag lab, Deerhurst
Sarah Matty, w, 57, Worcestershire
William Matty, s, 30, ag lab, Deerhurst
The Baker side:
1851 Marshfield Newport Monmouth
Watkin Baker, h, 26, farm lab, peterstone monmouth
Margaret Baker, w, 26, St Melons Monmouth
Watkin Baker, s, 2, Marshfield Monmouth
William Baker, s, 2months, Marshfield Monmouth
1871 Pentreguinea Swansea Glamorgan
Watkin Baker, h, 22, Railway Guard, Castleton Glamorgan
Phoebe Baker, w, 21, Solva Pembroke
Margaret Ann Baker, d, 3, Scholar, Solva Pembroke
William John Baker, s, 2, Pentreguinea Glamorgan
Watkin Edward Baker, s, 3months, Pentreguinea Glamorgan
(The Watkin Baker, head on the 1871 census info is the Watkin Baker on the 1851 info that is 2 years old. He is a direct link to my family and would be abt 12 years old on the 1861 census)
If anyone can find the missing 1861 census's for these two familes it would be fantastic!
thanks
pedro

thanks linda,
no mention of William Matty? strange why he would have moved back in with his parents had he moved out. ???
and another transcribe error (mally) i did find them transcribed as maltos on 1 record but clearly matty on print.

Hi pedro
He doesn't have to have moved out - he might just have been somewhere else on census night 1861. But I think it might have been under a hedge 'cos I can't find him! :D

Nice one Jennifer :D

thanks Jennifer,
that would explain why Watkin wasn't easy to find.
as for William, may well be :), he would have been twenty-ish.
If he was a visitor to a household would that be quite hard to find?
i did come accross a William Matty that was in a prison in 1861 but discounted as i couldn't link anything. but it wouldn't suprise me if there were 1 or 2 rogues in the past ;D
though to look at his picture, you would think not. quite stern and comanding.
just seen your new replies, that's brill! thanks both, i was struggling to find these people and it's nice to finally fll in some gaps, where they were, what they were doing etc.
it rules out the prison theory, pheww ;D
