I have recently received a copy of my grandfathers army service record and I have a few questions which I hope a roots chat member may be able to answer:
1) He was enlisted as a driver in the Royal Army Service Corps. What would have been the main duties of his regiment?
2) He was part of the BEF who arrived in France 24/9/39 and was evacuated from Dunkirk 28/5/40. Would kind of action would his regiment have seen?
3) In October 1944 he was posted to the 5 Motor Boat Company based in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. What did this regiment do (besides the obvious) ?
4) On 12/3/45 he was back with the RASC and his regiment were sent to India. Why was this?
I know these may be silly questions to someone with military knowledge but I am hopefull someone can help me.
Many Thanks
