Hello,
I have just joined Rootsweb. Can anyone please find our Sinfields relatives in Bedford?
James Sinfield was born in Bedford around 1845.
I only know that his father was called Samuel Sinfield.
James later moved to Sutton, Surrey, but I cant find him there in 1861, so maybe he was still in Bedford.
The censuses I would like checking are:
1851 Bedford
Samuel Sinfield ( father)
James Sinfield age 6 son
1861 Bedford
Samuel Sinfield (father)
James Sinfield age 16 son
Any information would be most welcome,
Many thanks,
Sally :)

Hi Sally,
I'm having trouble finding James in Bedford in 1851, there is a reference to a james in Free BDM for Bedford District for 1846:
Sinfield James Bedford 63[64] Births Mar 1846
The registration district covers a large area and I only have the images for 1851, no index.
I can't find him in Bedford itself, the images are not very good and I may of course missed him.
There are some Sinfields in Bedford one family headed by William and one headed by George but no mention of James I'm afraid. There are also some in Kempston which is covered by Bedford for BDM.
If you can find any more info come back to me and I'll take another look.
Cheers Rob

Thanks for your help Rob,
I have recently found out that James Sinfield said he came from Toddington, Bedfordshire. Family used to think he may have come from around there, and in the 1901 census he says he was born in Toddington. I have had trouble finding his birth certificate, I have a copy of the one you mentioned, but this isn't our James. So I will keep trying by way of elimination!
Many thanks,
Sally

Hello,
there is no James in 1851 for Toddington with a Samuel.
I only have access to Folio No's but did have a look at nearby villages. The ones that I thought might possibly be your Sinfields are as follows having looked at them on the IGI. Maybe someone can do a look up for the full entry. Is only an idea as Sinfields are pretty prolific in Beds/Bucks. My husbands grandmother was a 'Sinfield' so I have done a little on them in both Beds and Bucks but no connection to yours that I can see.
1851 census Lidlington
Folio 30
James Sinfield, 8, LID
Joseph Sinfield,11, LID
Ann Sinfield, 23, LID
Elizabeth Sinfield, 22, LID
George Sinfield, 19, LID
Henry Sinfield, 19, LID,
Thomas Sinfield, 28, LID
Ridgmont
Folio 102
Samuel Sinfield 47, LID
Samuel Sinfield, 10, jnr, LID
If you check out Sam jnr on the IGI he is from Samuel/Mary.
Almost all the others in Lidlington also are from Samuel/Mary so I think worth a try.
Good luck, Waterfall
