Hi Ladyhawk,
I don't know if this is your one...but there's a Mary Jane Smith on the 1891 Census for Wales, living in Cardiff, with:
Frederick J Smith 29yrs
Mary Jane Smith 29yrs (Born Cardiff).
William S Smith 8yrs
Edgar F Smith 8/12mnths
Dennis Collins 69
There's also a Birth Entry for an Ellen Mary Smith, born Cardiff, April/May/June Quarter of 1861 11a 263.
HTH, Romilly.

Hi Romilly,
Thanks for info. unfortunately this is not the one :'(
I should have been more precise with my post and mentioned that Mary is married but is not together with her family on 1891 census, so I'm trying to locate her.
I know she hasn't died as she on 1901 & 1911 census with her family.
Thanks for looking :)

Hi Ladyhawk,
Thats a difficult one...there are so many Mary Smiths!!
Do you have any idea or theory about where she might have been then? (I found my Grandmother listed twice on the 1891 Census for Wales; with her family & In-Service:-)
Best Wishes, Romilly.

Hi Romilly,
I had first thought that she had died and her husband had remarried as there were a few variations from the 1881c (age 25), 1901c name Mary J aged 38 in 1911 married for 31 years that put paid to that theory. 1881 to the 1911 they have lived in the same area, Cardiff, St. Nicholas, Glamorgan, Wales.
The only other theory I had was she visiting family/friends away from the area :-\ Oh how I wish she had an unusual name !!!

Hi again,
It is frustrating I agree...have you tried looking at entries on the 1891 for other members of her family to see if she's with them?
I suppose that another possibility might be that she was in hospital on that night? (Thats just a thought though...).
Romilly.

Hi Romilly,
Thanks for taking the time to reply, unfortunately I have not been able to trace any of her family, having said that I do know her father's name is William WOODS occ. mariner (deceased).
Have posted request here for help but she's proved just as difficult to find on census before her marriage in 1880 :'(
There was a dau. Mary with mother Elizabeth (widowed wife of mariner), Elizabeth being born in Bridgewater Somerset but not totally convinced this his her :-\
I'll keep looking :)
