Title: COMPLETE Parish Records circa 1720
Post by: Riddlebrick on Thursday 12 November 09 21:28 GMT (UK)
Hello

I am new to researching welsh relatives and would like to know where I might be able to find parish records for around 1720.

I am not certain that my relative is from Glamorgan, however their surname is Mordecai and I am led to believe that the majority of Mordecais came from Glamorgan so thougt it would be a good start.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Regards

Emma

have you checked Genuki to check where the records are? It's always a good starting point.

The records will be in the Glamorgan archives in Cardiff - due to close in December before moving to a new site in the new year
http://www.glamro.gov.uk/
and there are copies of many at the West Glam archive in Swansea, although their holdings may differ
http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=406/

but you'll need to know more about where your ancestor came from or you'll have a very long search

Another route could be to try the Family History Society who publish indexes http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wlsglfhs/
