Title: Need to find father's name
Post by: Loubog on Thursday 03 December 09 13:42 GMT (UK)
Hi

I have a James Clark b1853 Bourne, he was son of Mary Clark b 1828 (remarried to John Starkey) and no father named on the birth cert - what a tragedy! Wondered if there are any other records from that time which may inadvertently reveal this information

Thanks in advance

Louise :'(

sometimes the PR's (bapt.) will list the reputed father - it depends how ...... the vicar / clerk was at recording the minor details  :)

My 2 x g.grandfather born in 1811 (so no birth certificate) shows up on the parish records as illegitimate which just gives his mother's name.  However, he gives the name of someone as his father on his marriage cert and unlike other illegitimate ancestors, he gives a totally different name to his own.
