Hello All,
From an ignorant New Zealander, how do I place these names? I am using Genbox, but this question will probably suit all genealogy programmes.
Genbox asks for
Local Site, eg Church, Cemetery
City/Town
Township
County
State/Province
Nation Area
We have ancestors in Raffrey, and so far I have 6 entries for Raffrey:
1. Raffrey, Killinchy, County Down, Ireland
2. Raffrey, County Down, Northern Ireland
3. Raffrey Presbyterian Church, Raffrey, County Down, Northern Ireland
4. Raffrey, Killinchy, Down Patrick, County Down, Northern Ireland
and the next two are variations of the above.
Consulting a map does not seem to help.
Thank You
Jean

This is going to be a bit difficult to fit into your boxes because Irish 'addresses' are-
townland
civil parish
barony
county
province
country (Ireland)
There's a fantastic site called www.thecore.com/seanruad that will list the above details (as well as Poor Law Union) for places all over Ireland.
For your examples-
Townland = Raffrey
Civil Parish = Killinchy
Barony Castlereagh Upper
County = Down
Province = Ulster
PLU = Downpatrick. Poor Law Union corresponds to civil registration district so is useful if you are searching index for birth/marriage/death records or wanting to know location of local workhouse.
Perhaps fill in your boxes this way so that they will appear in the correct order-
Local Site, eg Church, Cemetery = Raffrey Presbyterian Church
City/Town = Raffrey
Township = Killinchy
County = Down
State/Province = Ulster
Nation Area = Ireland

Thank you very much aghadowey,
I will use your example as a template for my other Irish addresses.
Thank you for the web link - I will be able to expand other places I have recorded.
