Title: Mary Louisa BURNS, missing link in chain.
Post by: agho on Thursday 18 February 10 14:41 GMT (UK)
I have had great help from the Rootschatters here finding my Burns family, however, I am missing one person. Mary Louisa Burns, born 1868 in Cork, Ireland, arrived in Melbourne with her mother and siblings in 1885. Father and brother sailed earlier same year. After father and 2 children died family moved to Perth for some unknown reason. I have deaths and marriages for others but no trace of Mary Louisa. I was given info of a Mary Louisa who married a Wm Hird but unfortunately turned out not to be my Mary L. The rest of family all buried in Karakatta cemetery. Anyone any idea where I might look next?
should add Father Jerome and mother Mary Bennett

Hello  there

Was she listed as still living on the fathers' death ccertificate.

When did her mother and siblings go to Perth

There is a birth and death at one day of Mary Burns to Jerome Burns and Mary Bennett in 1887 at St Kilda reg no birth 6448 death4435
Which may indicate that the first Mary died

thanks Jenn

Thanks Jen.
Yes Mary Louisa was still alive in 1894 when her father died. The Mary who died in 1887 was born after the family arrived in Melbourne. Mary Louisa was born in Cork, Ireland in 1868. I'm presuming that they called the child Mary, even though they already had a Mary, was because that was the mother's name and the maternal grandmother's name and they knew the baby wouldn't survive.
The family appear to have moved to Perth in very early 1900s

I think I have found a death for a Mary Burns in Perth that might be Mary L. she died in 1946 aged 75, she would in actual fact have been 78 but I know ages weren't accurately recorded. I'm wondering if there is any way of confirming that she is the Mary I am looking for. It's a shame that the WA records can't be bought online. She was buried at Karakatta cemetery but in a different plot to the other family members. Could the cemetery have other records than those given on the record online. It states that the grantee of the grave was a James Kilgallon who doesn't seem to be a family member. Any suggestions?

Oops! sorry Yonks Ago, I should have updated this a long time ago. I found my Mary Burns, she was married to MArtin Francis Darcy and they are buried in Karrakatta cemetery also.

I haven't been doing much research for a while now as life took over  :)
