Hello Castlebob,
It would appear your Albert Bird Armstrong married Vera Leone Belliston.
Vera born 7 Jan 1903 Salt Lake City Died 10 March 1969 Salt Lake City.
Albert 30 March 1900 Salt Lake City Died 22 Jan 1973 Salt Lake City.
His father Albert Died 15 Jan 1913 Salt Lake City.
Pricilla Elizabeth Jordon, his mother died 1 Jan 1904 South Bountiful, Davis, Utah,
Information on Albert's other siblings if you want. ;D
-
Looks like the father Albert Bird Armstrong March 1873 was married twice.
This is 1900 census Salt Lake City Ward 3, Salt Lake, Utah. His father William April 1841 and family are on the same census page above him
Albert Armstrong 27 Married 1898. Immigrated 1876. Locomotive Fireman.
Lizzie Armstrong 21 Born England April 1879. Immigrated 1885
Priscilla Armstrong 1
Baby Armstrong 1 month old. So this is probably son Albert Bird Armstrong.
The 1910 census does say M2 = Marriage 2 and the details of his wife Mary are Born Utah 1881 of English parents. It is her first marriage and she has had 1 child. So Mary G Armstrong was born from this marriage, the other children were to his first wife.

Hello Again Bob,
The son mentioned in on the 1930 census is listed in US Phone and Address Directory at the same address 1993 - 2000. I think he may be the same person listed in these land records for Utah:-
http://www.co.utah.ut.us/Dept/Record/LandRecordsandMaps/PartyName.asp?avname=ARMSTRONG,%20ALBERT%20BIRD%20JR
Perhaps this is the winding up of an estate ???

Mary Gold Armstrong born 26 Aug 1909 - half-sister to Albert Bird Armstrong (1900) married Howard Milligan. Mary died 24 Oct 2004 - Bountiful, Davis, Utah, United States of America. Howard had died in 1 Sept 1963. Think Howard was Howard Ira Milligan born 20 Dec 1905 Salt Lake City.
Mary married at 18 years and Howard 21 years with a daughter on the 1930 census. (Better not name her)
Howard Ira Milligan was buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery 4 Sept 1963. Grave location:- Grave Location: East Park_77_6
1930 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah
Howard Milligan 23 Furniture Salesman.

Priscilla J Armstrong born 16 Feb 1899 married Ray Artell Milligan born 18 Aug 1901 Ogden, Weber, Utah. They married 24 July 1922 Evanston, Uinta, Wyoming.
Ray Artell Milligan was the brother of Howard Milligan who married Albert Bird Armstrongs half sister.
So Howard and Ray were both sons of John Bull Milligan and Ida Ellen Bigelow.
Ray died 26 May 1951 Salt Lake City. Utah. Buried 29 May 1951 Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake.
Priscilla Jane died 13 March 1982 Buried 17 March 1982 Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake.
A Utah birth also gives a Priscilla J Armstrong born to Arthur B and Pricilla 10 April 1903 in Sounth Bountiful. So did the first one die as an infant and they named a second the same name ?
This would be Priscilla with Ray in 1930 Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. It also lists Isabella Armstrong. She was also included in the 1930 with Albert and Vera !! Wonder if she could have married Frank Milligan - since her sister and brother had also married Milligans - must check that one out.
Ray C Milligan 28
Priscilla Milligan 28
Frank Milligan 22 Brother
Isabelle Armstrong 24 Sister In Law
Plus 2 children - will send by pm incase still living.
-
Just to add another complication -It would appear that in the 1930 census of Wiliam Bird Armstrong Jnr 1863 and Mary Armstrong. a son Anthon/Anthony appears born 1911. In the obituary for Anthon/Anthony/Tony it says he was the son of Albert Bird and Mary Elizabeth Gold.
http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=NewsLibrary&p_multi=DSNB&d_place=DSNB&p_theme=newslibrary2&p_action=search&p_maxdocs=200&p_topdoc=1&p_text_direct-0=0F364FA4A93B6977&p_field_direct-0=document_id&p_perpage=10&p_sort=YMD_date:D&s_trackval=GooglePM
On investigation it would appear that William Bird Armstrong originally married Mary Kemp, Mary died in April 1919. William Bird Armstrong then married the widow of his brother Albert (who had died in ( 1913 ) So William Bird Armstrong (1863) married Mary Elizabeth Gold 9 Oct 1919. Hence they are together on the 1920 census:-
William B Armstrong 56
Mary E G Armstrong 40
Leonard C Armstrong 18 Son of William and Mary Kemp
Martha H Armstrong 13 Daughter of William and Mary Kemp
Mary G Armstrong 10 Daughter of Albert and Mary Elizabeth Gold
Anthon G Armstrong 8 Son of Albert and Mary Elizabeth Gold
Dawson G Armstrong 6 Presume son of Albert and Mary Elizabeth Gold
So this gives your Albert (1900) - two more brothers.
-
According to anc...try tree - Dawson Gold Armstrong married in Farmington, Davis, Utah to a Dorothy M Dupree 18 March 1931.
Then to a Bowman 10 Dec 1937
According to California Death Index - Died in Portland. Oregon 3 March 1998
-
Amazing, Dettori!
Thanks so much for the great effort. I'll have to grab some spare time & work through this staggering info.
Greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Bob

Your very welcome Bob. Must admit when I first looked this morning, I thought aah, Utah Mormons and Multiple marriages but it was'nt quite like that.
This would be the 1900 census for William Bird Armstrong and Mary Kemp which helps you to check that I have named the correct children for the correct parents in the later census.

-

Interesting information.
Tracing the lineage of Albert Bird Armstrong can be difficult. After he fell to his death after slipping on a icy railroad trestle (he was a supervisor in the local rail yard, Mary Gold, his second wife, married William Bird Armstrong, Jr., Albert's older brother. William and Mary then had another child Clarence Armstrong.
This would have confused me except for my late Grandma (Mary Gold Armstrong Milligan, the oldest child of Great-Grandpa Albie's second marriage to Great-Grandma Mary) explained it to me with pen and paper. Clarence Armstrong was both my Grandma Milligan's half-brother and her cousin.
-
Thanks Lugal.
My interest in that line is because I used to be in contact with someone here in England who had an ancestor in the mid-1700s who was also an ancestor of Albert Bird Armstrong's, too. The Cumbrian family was traced back to 1622 in that county by my contact.
There is also evidence of a Y-DNA link between these people.
I greatly appreciate the info you sent.
Cheers,
Bob

My great-great grandfather (William Bird Armstrong, Sr.) did some genealogical work in the Haltwhistle, Northumbria area that his immediate progenitors come from while serving a religious mission (the foreign excursion that led to the passport issuance referred to earlier in this thread). However, the information he brought back and the information my late aunt added on later get rather sketchy the closer we get to the end of the seventeenth century. There appear to be some discrepancies in my aunt's work but she passed away before she clarified them. The Armstrong line I have (starting from my great-great grandfather) is:
William Bird Sr. -> John (1812-1862) -> Robert (1782-1866) -> John (1745-1829) -> Thomas (1719-1805) -> Thomas? (1692?-?)
My grandmother was under the strong impression that she was a proud Scotswoman that descended from royalty that went back to Earl Siward. However, the information I have can't prove either. Do you know where I can find out more information about my line?
-
I'm afraid the Siward link has problems due to his male line dying out, allied to some date discrepancies. The actual truth as we know it is fascinating, though. I'll PM some info.
Re some who link to your descendants:
Robert (4th of 11) Bapt 16 Jul 1785 at Hindley Steel Farm - died 12 Sep 1866 at Swalwell, Whickham
His father was John (youngest of 5) Bapt 12 Apr 1749, born Butterburn Farm, Cumbria, died 2 Apr 1829 at Hindley Steel Farm (7 miles N.E. of Haltwhistle)
He wed 30 Dec 1778 to Jane Carrick 2nd Sep 1758, d26 Sep 1838.
John's father was Robert - 3rd child of a 2nd marriage. Bapt 4 Jun 1710 at Low Grains, Bewcastle. Died 7 Aug 1800 at Hindley Steel Farm. He wed 1st: Jane Maggee - 11th June 1739 in Haltwhistle. Jane died 1st Mar 1752 at Butterburn Farm. He wed 2nd: Anne Elliot of High Grains on 17 May 1755 at Bewcastle.
Robert's father was James - eldest of at least 5. Bapt 7 Aug 1670, possibly in Spadeadam, died 1732 possibly in Haltwhistle. He wed twice. His father was James Died 1696 at Wrygarth, near Spadeadam. He wed Ann Lowther 30 Nov 1666 at Lanercost. She died 23 Jan 1717 or 18.
