Title: Missing Walter
Post by: Suzy W on Thursday 11 March 10 23:14 GMT (UK)
Hello

After a number of years trying to hunt down my great Uncle Walter Merricks, I think this may be him, found on Find my past.  He died in Isle of Wight April qtr 1972, being born 1901.
The date fits well, as he was born in 1901, but in Stafford.
Would anyone be going to the records office and have a look at any probates to see if this is him?

Regards
Suzy W

Don't know if you have access to 1911 census, but he is on there with his family.
regards.

Yes I have all those details.  It is after he has grown and married is where I have lost him.  Think he married someone by the name Kitty, but not 100% sure on that.
My grandmother never said on where he lived, so I am totally lost on where he went.
Just thought someone may be able to go into the local record office and view this Walter Merricks details and see if he was born in Stafford, then we will have the right man.

Cheers

A death certificate from 1972 will indicate where  and when he was born, but you cannot find out his birth place without buying the certificate. The index indicates that he was born 23 Jun 1901 - does that fit?

Same year of birth.  Did not want to send for a cert until really sure it was him.  There was another Walter Merricks about the same time, and thought how odd that he would end up so far from Stafford, but then again his sister (my grandmother ended up in New Zealand).
I know here in NZ, people do go into the record office and just look at the probates without buying certs etc.  Safes a lot of money.
