I have no idea where to start but would like to find the deaths and any info on Lajos Banfalvi and Ellen Banfalvi nee Field previously Lee, who married in London in June 1962 and went to Ottawa straight after. Ellen was born 1912 in Shanghai.

An article about Ellen's war efforts.

There are Banfalvi's buried around Ottawa - perhaps relatives of Lajos'.

Canada 411 has only 8 Banfalvi listings in Canada (all in Southern Ontario) including one with an address in Ottawa:

Perhaps one of these people is related.

Thank you for this but Ellen would be dead by now and I do not know any more of Lajos's family.

Hi,
I don't think Debbie is suggesting that she is still alive. However, there are a lot more centenarians around today. I think what Debbie is suggesting to you is that one of or more of those people shown in the online book book may be her relative and able to provide you with some family info - particularly the one in Ottawa. I would contact and check those 8 out if it were me via a phone call or snail mail. Nothing to lose and everything to gain :-)Hope that helps,

I have already written to two Bafalvi's and no reply.
I was just hoping that tehre may be Ottawa deaths online like we have for the UK that some kind soul wouldn't mind looking at for me.
I went to the site for Burials that Debbie suggested but it wouldnt let me in to the page given nor could I find a search facility on the site.
Thank you for your time

I had difficulties with the link from Debbie as well but was able to work my way back. There were two Benfalvi burials listed both at Pinecrest Cemetery in Nepean Twp, Carleton County Ontario with the same stone reference (CRM-257): Ferenc and Margaret Banfalvi. To get the dates on the stone you have to contact the Ontario Genealogical Society and pay for the information:
http://www.ogs.on.ca/index.php
As for BMD events, there is no central registry in Canada as it is a provincial jursidiction. Privacy laws vary from province to province but in Ontario death registrations from 1939 to the present are currently protected and only next of kin can order a certificate.
The article that Debbie posted indicated that Ellen and Lajos settled in Kitchener, Ontario. You may want to contact the Kitchener Public Library to see if they can help finding an obituary for them:
http://www.kpl.org/
If you think they left Kitchener for Ottawa then here's the link for the Ottawa Public Library:
http://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en/main/overview
I don't know if this is possibly a relative of theirs or not but here is a link to a grave marker for Melinda Banfalvi who is buried at Our Lady of the Visitation Cemetery, South Gloucester, Ontario. She was born 4 Sep 1966 and died in 1995:

Hi all,
Here is another suggestion. You can contact a volunteer in those two areas who might be able to help as well. They can be contacted thru ROAGK at http://www.raogk.org/. I have used these volunteers 3 times in the past and they have been successful (and then some) in locating the info I was searching for attached to a couple of brick walls. Hope this helps,

A couple of libraries that are gr8 for genealogy are the Toronto Metro Public Library and the York Public Library. Both these libraries have resources for all of Ontario. Cheers.

I was so lucky that Kutchener library replied the same day and has found that Ellen was buried in 1977 in Woodland Cemetery.
For $10 I can have a full obituary
Thank you veryone!!!

Good morning,
Now that you know where your ancestor is buried, you can contact the Woodland cemetery administration and ask them for information they have relating to Ellen. This info may include names of family members (which you may not know of), where she is buried in their grounds, and the funeral home ( which can be contacted for potential further info) if they are still in operation, etc.. There may be a small fee or donation involved there. I have found so far that cemetery administrators are very nice and will do as much as they can to help. I trust this will help you,
Have a good day,
JDC

I will google the cemetery, see if I can find an email address.
You may think me stupid, and sometimes I am, but when they suggested $10, would this be US dollars?
Thank you
-
Thank youa gain everyone, I now have the inscription from Ellen's grave. The $10 would be for an obituary!! How cool!!!!
Ellen Martha Doris Field / Shanghai 1912 - Waterloo 1977 / 2nd Daughter of Elizabeth & William / Her Accomplished Talents Were Put / to Good Use in W.W. II, Hong Kong / Where She Helped in P.O.W. Escapes / & Far Eastern Espionage Work / "Nellie Live a Charmed Life."

No. Unless they say otherwise it would mean $10 Canadian.
