James Morris                5, b. Perthshire, Scotland
Elisabeth Morris    2, b. Perthshire, Scotland
Henrietta Morris    2 Mo, b. Perthshire, Scotland

 Auchterarder; ED: 10; Page:  9; Line: 7
For some reason this family weren't coming up quickly.
In 1861 I have found them at the above reference.
They were living at Windsole, Auchterarder. Father, William was 61, a Farmer who employed 5 men and he was born Kinaird, Perth. With him were the following children:
Janet, 26, General worker; Euphemia, 15, General worker; Peter, 11, scholar; William, 6, scholar. All born Gask except William jnr who was born Auchterarder.

Not I didn't, thanks very much for the information! May I ask what your source for the burials is, and if you know the burial dates?

My source is the book 'south perthshire, lower strathearn monumental inscriptions' by John Mitchell and Sheila MacBeth/Mitchell, edited by Alison Mitchell. I had a look for other members of the Morris family but none fitted. No burial dates are given.

Cheers.
Aye, you won't find any other Morris inscriptions there as they came from another part of Perth (Kinnaird).
Are there any inscriptions for Elizabeth's parents and grandparents though?
Peter Duncan (born 1789 Findo-Gask) and wife Agnes Gemmel/Gamelin (married 1811 Findo-Gask) and
Alexander Duncan and his wife Elizabeth Fenton (married 1781 Findo-Gask)

Gask Cemetery:
No. 11 :
Alex Duncan mason Clathie d 9.3.1827 79, w Elis Fenton 20.5.1841 91, by Laurance Duncan mason Clathie. [west side] 1830. Laurance Duncan 26.6.1859.
It says that carved on the stone were setsquare and dividers, plumbline and level.
The other information I sent to you was No 13.
In case there is a connection here are Nos 12 and 14:
No 12: Wm Niven fr Greenbog Blackford 11.8.1902 68, w Janet Morris 1.4.1904 68, sons Jas d inf, Wm d London 27.2 1898 int Woolwich Cemetery.
No 14: [next 13] David Gardiner d Clathy 12.7.1905 72, w Agnes Morris 24.1 1907 72, chn: Peter d at Hillside Home, Perth 31.5 1921 54, Agnes 26.10.1921 70
The only other Duncan in the Gask M.I's is:
Wm Kemp in Clathey 28.12.1842 69 w Mary Duncan 17.7.1839 66, son Peter 22.2.1828 24
There are none for Peter Duncan and Agnes Gemmel/Gamelin in the whole of the book.
I am happy that the book is being put to use as none of my ancestors are in it! Will be happy to help with anything else.

Wow this is great information excel thank you, I have driven right past Findo-Gask before, totally unaware I had ancestors interred there.
It's a pity Elizabeth Fenton didn't survive a few weeks to be on the 1841 census... but it's possible Peter Duncan and/or wife Agnes Gemme/Gamelin are on it; can you find them?

Also, is there any inscription for:
-John Don in Crieff?
-Duncan and Andrew McAra in Monzie?
-Archibald Campbell in Fowlis Wester or Monzie?

And do you happen to have any other Perthshire pre-1855 MIs books? I have Perthshire North. Vol.1, but that's it

I can only find Peter Don, Shoemaker, Crieff, w Barbara Scott 28.10.1810 56 in the Crieff M.I's and Amelia Don 11.3.1772 35 w of Robt Duncan. chn: Geo, Janet, John, Robt.   R 1777 D.   F D. [this must have been difficult to read].
There are several Donald McAra's but so far haven't found any Duncans. [Although Donald and Duncan I think are interchangeable]. If you can give me an approx d.o.b/death I can see if there is anything possible.
The only Andrew I have found at Monzie was in this M.I
Donald McAra d. Dundurn 12.11.1875, w Janet McAinsh 19.11.1864, das betsy 15.11.1865 13 & Mary jessie 28.2.1875 19, s Peter 20.9.1910 60, Andw 26.2.1936 87 da Margt 20.5.1940 82
In the notes section: SC 49 some marriage contracts: Andw McAra in Connachan & Catherine Campbell

I have McRaw's in that area who seem to interlink with McAras. They were connected with Connachan Farm, Fowlis Wester and I have found headstones in Monzie graveyard.

Cheers. I'm not sure if any of those are related, but that Peter Don is a good clue because my John Don (b. abt 1768 Crieff, d. abt 1846 Crieff) was also a shoemaker.

My McAras are:
-Elizabeth who married Peter McLaren 1803 in Crieff and Muthill, and whose children were born in Muthill.
-Her parents Duncan and Anne Morrison who married and Crieff in 1784, and whose children were born in Monzievaird.
I'm not sure but I believe Duncan to be the son of Andrew McAra and Anne Tansh, married 1744 Monzie, having ten children born there.

Did you check for the Duncans on the censuses? I was just searching the ScotlandsPeople indexes and found a 1862 Findo-Gask death for Agnes Duncan née Gemmel. I can't find a likely Peter Duncan death, so it's likely he died pre-1855. (though there's a 1861 will that might be his)

Sorry, I didn't have time to look things up yesterday.
I'm not sure if the following is the correct family as I could find no Peter Duncans with a wife called Agnes:
1841 Clathy, Perthshire Findo Gask; ED: 1; Page:  6; Line: 530
Peter Duncan, 45, Farmer, bc 1796 [but this is the 1841 census where ages were out about 5yrs
Ann Duncan, 45, bc 1796, Scotland
There were youngsters with them with surname of Scharton [not sure this is correct], Mary 14 and Jean 9; Matilda Seaton, 19; all born Scotland. No occupations beside any of them so perhaps they were relatives? The others on the page were all Ag Labs.
* have just found a Matilda Seaton b, 1821, Dunoon; parents James Seaton and Catherine McIsaac, the latter was an Ag Lab with the Duncans in 1841.
1851 Clathy Village  Findo Gask; ED: 1; Page:  1; Line: 12
Peter Duncan, 60, Farmer of 16 acres emp., 1 servant, born Gask
Ann Duncan, 58, b. Muirkirk, Ayrshire
Sanson Cook, 19, Agricultural Servant, b Masaty [Madderty?] Perthshire.
1861 Clathy Village Findo Gask; Findo Gask; ED: 1; Page:  15; Line: 6
Ann Duncan, 70, occupation [Findklder]!, bc 1791, Muirkirk, Ayrshire
If Agnes was called Ann then Peter may have died either before the census was taken on the 7th April 1816 or pre- registration

McAra:
I don't see any connection with yours but they all lived around that area of Monzie, Monzievaird as did my McRaw/Gould/Guild, McIntyre ancestors.

Thanks again excel, I'm 95% sure that's my family. I'll have to wait till my next time in Edinburgh to check the census images to see what Ann/Agnes' occupation actually was in 1861.
I've been looking at possible census entries for ancestors on the free index on Ancestry, and was wondering if you could give me the household of the following three to see whether or not they fit in with my family:
-Elizabeth Mclaren      abt 1785     Perthshire, Scotland     Crieff     Perthshire
-Ann McAra      abt 1771     Perthshire, Scotland     Crieff     Perthshire
-Jannet Whittet      abt 1771     Perthshire, Scotland     Kinnaird     Perthshire

1841 Elizabeth McLaren was living with Donald McLaren 59, a Weaver and James McLaren, 36, Ag Lab at Milnrodgie, Crieff.
I can't work out if they were alive in 1851 or not.
1841 at Barnside Fendock, Crieff, Ann McAra, 70, was a Pendicler; In same house were Charles McKinchen, 15, Ag Lab, b. Perthshire and Elizabeth Walker,12, Farm Servant, b. Perthshire
I can't see her in 1851.
1851 at Carriers House, Kinnaird, Janet Whittet, Aunt, 84, Lodger, born Kinnaird. She was living with Alexander Duncan, 50, a Carrier, b. Kinnaird, his wife Jane, and family. She was also with them in the 1841 Census. She was no longer with them in 1861.

Thanks again excel.
Could you please see if you could find the family of an Archibald Campbell in the censuses? I know from another record that in 1842 he was working as a Labourer in Fowlis-Wester, county of Perth, so he should be there in 1841, and possibly in other censuses if he was still alive.
Also, could you also see if you could find Mary Watson née Nicol on the 1841 census (possibly with husband James Watson if he was still alive)? She was born circa 1799 and should be in the city of Perth (she died there 11 Dec 1847).
Thirdly I'm looking for couple Robert Bruce (weaver) and wife Jean Watt (married 1789) on the censuses (should be in the city of Perth), hopefully at least one of them was alive for a census or two.
Cheers

Hi

I noticed your post Morris family Clathy Gask Perth.

I have quite a bit of information such as photographs dating way back that we believe to be the Morrison family.  In the family tree it refers to Morris or Morrison. The two gravestones at Gask one William Morrison and the other Alexander Duncan are our relatives.  Archibald Campbell is the grandfather of William Torrance who married Elizabeth Fenton Morrison. My great great grandparents.  If you wish more information get in touch.

Hi TunjiLees

Yes.. what I have got here is Archibald Campbell born about 1781 in Mearns and died March 19, 1869 in Methven.  He was married to Mary Robertson born about 1780 in Dull (near Aberfeldy?)
Died Feb 24, 1867 Methven.  There is a daughter here Janet Campbell born about 1810 in Dull died June 7, 1879 in Dundee. Janet Campbell married James Torrance born about 1801 and died in Newburgh 1842. Their son William Torrance married Elizabeth Fenton Morrison.
They are my Great Great Grandparents.

Will be in touch.

Hello,

Just a quick dig for any information you may have found in your research in the Duncan Family from Clathy Findo Gask ? I am related through the son James Duncan that ended up in Anderston and then Greenock. I heard someone say photos and I had to ask ... even though it was such a long time ago and perhaps you are no longer actively on here .... what treasures did you dig up in the end. I have them on census's and parish registers. Can't actually find James's Birth record though.

Hi there

Your message pinged up on the phone so I got it quite quickly. We have had some difficulty replying
poor signal. Reading your message it sounds as if your local (Scotland) but I could be wrong, other contacts have been on the other side of the world. We live a few miles from Gask. Could you send an email address for easier communication.
