Hi
In the 1800s were family notices( birth/marriage/death) put in the local paper?

                thanks Daphne

Very broad question- What part of the 1800s?
In general very few birth, mostly death and some marriage notices put in papers. To give an example: Londonderry Sentinel 1829-1869 included 6800 births, 9900 marriages and 18700 deaths.
Answer also depends on where the family lived, what newspaper they read or if they were poor/uneducated, and in case of weekly paper the day of death and funeral in relationship to date of paper.
Up until 1920s for some areas deaths were still 'announced' by printed letters rather than newspaper announcements (especially if local paper was only weekly).
