Have you tried getting a write-up in local papers, asking on local radio station (they often have request slots for this sort of thing), church announcements, local schools, etc.?
-
Thanks for your interest - you are great! Yes, we've been to all those places and have been amazed at what we've found. Have been searching for about 6 months now! but we keep coming across new information :o
It is fascinating and I am enjoying it!

I'd nearly guarantee afterwards at least one person will come up with fantastic photo/important information saying 'I thought you'd already have this.'
-
I do hope so - that would be fantastic. We have come across a lot of photos that we have no idea who they are - so hope to have a 'Do you know who this is?' section at the exhibition. Might learn something that way too?

Did that to celebrate 150th anniversary of local school after we wrote history- sold enough copies of the book that night to more than cover publishing costs as there was a huge crowd. Funnily enough the school picture that created most interest was from 1960s- surprising how good (and bad) some people were at recognising their classmates- we were cramped for space and needed far more room for people to stand looking at exhibits.

Wish that we had thought to to a book - we have a huge amount of info accrued....maybe later! Our church in Coolbanagher, and glebe-house will be 225 yrs and the old schoolhouse will be 200 yrs. It's amazing the things that people have in their attics!
Thanks for the idea

Laois History (Portlaoise Library)
Little bits to add to Coolbanagher history.
The plain included all the parish of Coolbanagher " Cuil Bendchuir a Muig Reicheat", where, as we are told, Ogengus commenced the compiling of his Martyrology- as well as Ardea, a modern parish formerly part of Coolbanagher, and so constituted the western half of the barony of Portnahinch.
To the south-west, and probably on the Clanmalire-Irry border were Coolbanagher and Killimy granted to Robert Harpole in 1564, regranted in 1578, and held in 1622 by his second son George. Coolbanagher from the evidence of the 1563 map appears uncultvativated and Killimy may have been situated on the edge of the wood covering much of Emo Park.

Thank you very much for your post, much appreciated. There is ruin of St. Peter's Church about a mile away which was burnt in 1779. May have been a monastic settlement around? We have collated a large amount of history now from 1782 on the new church of St. John's, designed by James Gandon and completed in 1785. The school house was completed in 1810. From church records we are gradually building info on both and contacts from previous rectors families - only 2 of the teachers though - even though we know many of their names. So your help is gratefully received. :)
Good wishes,
