We are helping a lady from work with her family history and her maternal grandparents were William Sherer GREIG and Barbara Ann TARBITON b 1900 - her parents were Jack TARBITON and Isabella LAMOND b 1871 whose parents were James LAMOND and Barbara PHILLIPS.
We have nothing on William GREIG born around 1900
Can anyone help with any of this ?

Isabella Lamond (t) 's birth and that of a sister:
International Genealogical Index - British Isles
76. BETSY DOUGLAS LAMONT - International Genealogical Index / BI
Gender: Female Birth: 31 JAN 1874 Dundee, Angus, Scotland
77. ISABELLA PRESSLEY LAMONT - International Genealogical Index / BI
Gender: Female Birth: 21 JUN 1871 Peterhead, Aberdeen, Scotland
Don't worry about the spelling - it happens all the time! Although the sister was born Dundee, it is the same parents.
I have Aberdeenshire Lamond(t)s in my husbands tree. will have a look and see if there are any connections.
Regards
Ellen.

Hi You should be able to get William Sherer Greigs birth certificate online at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk this would give his parents name you would also be able to get the 1871,1881,1891,and 1901 census online for the whole of Scotland, it is a bit busy just now as they have just added the 1871 census to the website I hope this helps all the best with your research LesleyJ
I use this website all the time and I have no problems with it although they do charge you £6 for 30 units which works out about £1.25 a certificate.

Thanks for that
Could not find his birth certificate :'(
But got the Lamond family in 1891 and 2 marriages of Lamond girls.

I have done some research on scotlands people and found Richard Shearer Greig's birth in 1885 and his parents marriage in1878 - Alexander Greig and Annie Ross. Charles Greig and Jessie Stephen were the parents of Alexander Greig. (we have found them both in the censuses)
Thank you for your family details and sorry we do not appear to be researching the same family.

Catherine Duncan Greig would be a sister to my grandmother's MOTHER'S MOTHER. To put it another way, my mother's (Mavis), mother's (Constance McLeod Rennie), mother's (Helen Webster Greig) father & mother were Alexancer Greig & Jane Nees MacRitchie.
So how are you related to Catherine?

My Grandfarher, William Shearer Greig, died on active service during world war 2, long before I was born, so I know very little about him. I found the following information in the commonwealth war graves web site.
William Shearer Greig
Rank: Engineman
Service Number: LT/KX103192
Date of Death: 18/09/1944
Age: 58
Regiment/Service: Royal Naval Patrol Service
(The information above is also on his gravestone)
Grave Reference: Sec P. Grave 22
Cemetery: Peterhead Cemetery (Constitution Street)
Additional Information: Son of Alexander and Annie Greig : Husband of Barbara Ann Greig of Peterhead.
I have been told that the following inscriptions are on the Peterhead war memorials, although I have not seen them
War Memorial Inscription (St Peters cemetary) Greig, William S. Royal Navy Petty Officer
War Memorial Inscription (Drill hall) Greig, P/O William S. R.N.
I do know that he was employed as the fireman on a steam drifter, during the 1930's
I believe, my grandmother, Barbara Ann Greig (Tarbitton). was his second wife. She lived at 9 Hanover St Peterhead from the late 1920's or early 1930's until her death in the 1980's

I have some additional information regarding my grandfather William Shearer Greig. During world war 1 he was a private in the 1st Gordon Highlanders (Number 8733 )and must have been held as a prisoner of war, because I have a letter from King George, dated 1918, on Buckingham Palace notepaper, which welcomes him home on his release.

I am also researching the Greig family on behalf of a grandchild of Ronald Greig, son of William Shearer Greig and Barbara Greig. I was wondering where/how to obtain military records?
Thanks,
Ange
