Title: Violet Victoria Lorch (nee Ashworth)
Post by: jconnolly60 on Tuesday 11 May 10 13:01 BST (UK)
My ancester emigrated as a child from Preston with her family to America in 1905, I have managed to locate her in the 1910 1920 & 1930 census she married John Lorch an Austrian and lived in Illinois. This is where it gets confusing I found a death for a Viloet Lorch in 1990 which seemed to fit, her husband John Lorch died in 1964. But on a recent Ancestry search a Florida marriage in 1970 popped up 3 names were listed Violet Victoria Ashworth (maiden name Ashworth) Violet Victoria Lorch (maiden name Ashworth) & Henry Ashworth who I assume would be the groom. This seems too much of a coincidence to be a different person as the names are not common. Is it usual for the Florida records to show 2 names? But the death in 1990 is in the name of Lorch and in Illinois? Any ideas of where i should go from here  ???

It looks like Violet's sister Ruby was living with her in 1930.  Have you figured out what happened to her?  Or John & Violet's children?  If we can find death dates for them, maybe an obituary would help to show what happened to Violet.

There's a passenger list from Liverpool to Quebec in 1929 with a Ruby Ashworth born 13 May 1907 in Chicago and living at 5717 Leyland Ave., Chicago.  Do you think she's the sister?

Her birth was in Mar quarter 1901, that does fit with the January birthdate as given on the SSDI.

Possibly she used both the Ashworth and Lorch names?
Possibly that marriage ended in divorce?
Possibly that marriage was for a daughter, not for her?
Are you sure the groom was also Ashworth? I wouldn't be surprised by her being indexed under both birth and previous married name, but it'd be a big coincidence if she ended up marrying an Ashworth!

http://news.google.co.uk/archivesearch and look for "Violet nee Ashworth"
turns up John's obituary and three children. (no Violet, hmm)

 - I believe this may be the death of their son just recently.

The Chicago Tribune obituary index has a listing for a Violet T. Ashworth from 16 May 1990, the same month of the death of Violet Lorch on the Social Security Death Index.  However, I can't seem to find any site that has the text of the obituary.
