Hi There,
I have Benjamin Stone's death certificate where he died 3/8/1889 in Auckland, NZ aged 67. It says he was here for 28 years
This makes him born about 1822. It has Essex, England for his birth place.
He married a Rose Ann Murphy in India. But on his son's birth cert it has Brown as the surname
The first child a male was born abt 1853 and the next male child was born abt 1860

This is the link to the thread about his son Joseph who was born in NZ 1872
I would love to know who Benjamin's parents are
It anyone can help that would be great
Regards

Have you any idea when he left England, he doesn't appear to be on 1841 or 1851 putting in circa 1822 but I stand to be corrected
If you could manage to get his marriage cert you would at least find his father

I do not know when they married in India and have never got a marriage cert from there.
I wonder if he added ans "s" to the end of his name making it STONES

Thank you for that info
I am not sure if it is my family either.
Does any one know how I would find a marriage in India?
Thanks so much for your help

Would there be a way to find the birth of this man?

T o be honest you would need to narrow it down a bit to search his birth, Essex is far to wide an area to do a search to be honest, you won't get a cert prior to 1837, only a baptism if he was baptised in Essex
There is 1 on IGI,but once again who knows if this one is correct more than the previous one
Benjamin Stones born about 1819 White Roding, spouse Martha about 1844 White Roding
I don't know how you can get a cert from India, if he was a British subject would it be lodged in London somewhere?, someone more knowledgeable than me would have to help you,is there a section on RC
I hope you find your man

Yes, there is an Indian section on RC, look at some of the postings and see if there is any info that way

Hi There,
Since my last post I have found out today that Benjamin STONE was in the 70th Regiment.
He enlisted on 02 February 1843 and was discharged in New Zealand on 10 May 1865 for his pension.
He was born in Chesham He was a labourer. He left Calautta on the "Daniel Rankin" 23 February 1861 and arrived in Auckland, New Zealand on 13 May 1861
Am still to work out what age Benjamin was when he joined the army.

Looks like he was about 21 if you assumed he was born 1822
