Looking for any information about Albert and George Whiffin and their families living in Toronto emigrated from UK IN 1910.

- are you talking about the family headed by Henry Whiffen and wife Marie that's in Toronto in 1911? (Although they're listed as emigrating in 1907). They have a son Albert (b. 1890) and a George (b. 1901)
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/cef/001042-100.01-e.php - Albert signed up to WWI and was not married at the time.
Are you looking for descendants in Canada or trying to track them back to the UK?
-
Hello Jorose,
Thank you for your reply.
Can you give me the details of the family in 1911.?
Yes that is the same family. Henry emigrated in 1907 and Marie and their children emigrated in 1910.
Henry and Marie moved to Chicago in 1913 and Albert and George remained in Toronto. However George is with the family in 1920 in Chicago.
1917/1918 George lived in 28 Henry Street, Toronto and 1924 Albert lived at 159 Christy Road and 331 McRobert Rd, Toronto. (Addresses obtained from border crossings from Detroit when their family visited)
So I am looking for any descendents, as I have all their details in the UK
Thank you

Hello Scott,
You can search the 1911 Census yourself for free at the automatedgenealogy weblink the joerose posted. You can view the actual image by clicking 'split screen' near the top of the transcription page. This will give you more information than the transcription part provides.

It looks like Albert was still in Toronto in 1921:

Polar Bear and Lisa,
Thank you for your help.

Yvonne, if you want to find where they are buried you could search OCFA [Ontario Cemetry Finding Aid]... free and online.
I've had spectacular success with it.
Worth a try as it gives leads about where they lived etc.

Hello Charlotte,
Thanks for the information.
I found two members of the family. Presumably you would have contact the cemeteries for further information.
Yvonne
-
Hi again :)
You could try the cemeteries or ask for a lookup on RC using the exact reference that is at the end of each line of entry.
The references ar to various Ont. FHS who have put out books with the full MIs in them.

Keep in mind that there were two Alfred Whiffin's in Ontario in 1911; they were ages 13 and 14. The Alfred buried in Woodlawn may be the other Alfred.
========
There are several Whiffins living in Ontario. You could try writing to them, asking if there could be a family connection:

Hello Lisa,
Thanks for your message.
Two brothers emigrated to Canada from Kent, UK settling in Toronto, both had sons called Alfred, so it gets rather confusing.
Checked the website you listed and found some Whiffins, might check it out.
Yvonne
-
I have four branches of my own tree where they handed down first names; I know how confusing things can get. ;)
Have you tried internet searches for the Griffins in Ontario (and Canada)? I did try a few searches and didn't see anything; perhaps you might be able to find something eventually? If you haven't tried searching, I might suggest key words such as: surname, first and surname, surname and first name, town, his/her occupation, died, buried, Kent, Marie's maiden name, etc. It can take many hours, but you might eventually find clues.

There are a few Whiffins in British Columbia:

You may already have this information, since you are only asking about Albert and George...marriage for Rose Jane Whiffin:

Again, you may already know about this site:

Albert married Jennie Chadwell June 2, 1919 and there is a border crossing for Albert and Jennie Oct 24, 1919 at Detroit. They are going to Chicago Illinois and are accompanied by his brother Alfred, 21, carpet stretcher. Albert is a plasterer. Albert paid his own passage but Alfred's mother paid his and his record is stamped Psy infirmity.
Alfred enlisted in WWI so perhaps was greatly affected by those events. Brothers Harry, Jack John and Albert also enlisted, all in 1916.
Harry Whiffin died 17 Dec 1918 Chicago buried St Lucas Cemetery.
attempted border crossing at Detroit April 1924 for John J.Whiffen, b. Gillingham, father Harry Whiffin, brother Albert Whiffen 159 Christy Place Toronto, occupation plaster - he was debarred - criminal
With him was a Rose Whiffin, jeweller, b. Runcorn - also debarred.

Hello Debbie,
Thank you for all the information about the Whiffin family it is most useful,
It must be the son Harry who died in 1918 as his parents are on the 1920 Census.

Hello Lisa,
I do subscribe to Ancestry, but can only access UK records.
I can access the US and Canadian records at my local library. So will go and check next week. At the moment we are having a heatwave here in England, so not the weather to be sitting in a library.
Yvonne
-
Yes it was the son Harry that died in 1918. Forgot to mention that on the attempted border crossing for John J. his last place of residence was Milwaukee Wisconsin. Father Harry Whiffen was 3432 Fond du Lac St. Milwaukee
Debbie

Hello Debbie,
Thanks for the extra information.
Yvonne

There was definitely a Whiffin family living in Toronto in 1970, - a bridesmaid at a wedding I attended. Maybe next week I will get a chance to check the Toronto city directories.
-
Hello,
Thank you for your message. Look forward to hearing from you again.

I've picked out the Edwin connection to write up first as its the slightest. He was still living at 59 Ward Street in 1951. He was the only Whiffin at that address at that date but in 1949 Robert Whiffin also lived there. Edwin is not in the 1972 listing, presumably deceased. It looks as if he moved into the 59 Ward house around 1920, and lived there from then on. By 1972 there is an R. Whiffen at 2323 Lakeshore Blvd W, and a Robert Whiffin at 512 Durie.
I'm trying to make some sense of the 1920/1930s entries, I didn't check every year but if there is a year that's of special interest it might come to light and I can make another trip.
-
Hello,
Thank you so much for doing all this research for me,
I am doing the research for William Champness's youngest daughter Betty now 82 and her daughter Mary, who both live in Phoenix, Arizona.
I have been gradually unravelling the Whiffin family in Canada after emigrating in the early 1900's.
